Re: Premier Aviation Spitfire Series

If I had to guess, they look like oak to me, at least on the outside.

Re: Improving Groove

OK so you're looking more for fills than grooves. I don't think I can help you. Taking a fill from a book and applying it somewhere....IDK, not something I recommend.

I have an analogy about...

Re: Some Pearl Vision Porn ;)

It would be cool to have a set with each drum made from a different material. Acrylic kick. Stainless rack. Wood floor tom. Carbon fiber 2nd rack. Clay snare.

But your kit just offends me in every...

Re: Jazz Drumming, and its benefits for rock

I've never thought about it like that before. I'd have to concur. With exceptions, as always. I need chords. So Oscar Peterson stuff I can sink my teeth into. Jazz with vocals is easier for me to get...

Re: Difficult band members

OK with this new development...it raises the question:

Should you wait till after the gig to say anything?

My first thought would be to wait for the gig to be over.

A courtesy to the...

Re: Jazz Drumming, and its benefits for rock

I wouldn't say it's pointless. It's not something you can pick up in a few weeks though. Not sure if it's something you can get from a book either. Listening to a few thousand hours of jazz would...

Re: Anyone else notice the cost of sticks getting ridiculous

I'm still amazed that my Vater Fusion sticks are still good after 10.5 months. I switched to them after growing tired of wood tips splitting. The tips on my wood tipped sticks would have died in 3...

Re: Improving Groove

Fair enough. As long as each individual understands in their own way, that's the important thing. I like to think of a long stretch of time keeping (grooving) as one big giant bar of the same exact...

Re: Some Pearl Vision Porn ;)

All you need to play those drums is a big ole 10 gallon hat, with a Hawaiian shirt, and what the hell, a cape for good measure. Guaranteed to piss everyone off.

Re: Improving Groove

When I think of groove, fills aren't even on the list. If you have to fill, build it around the QNP. Groove lives in the beat IMO, but normally is present throughout the entire song, if it is a...

Re: Improving Groove

Groove is not an external thing. It comes from deep within. You have to feel groove, it's not something you get from a book like a paradiddle. Humans can always feel music deeper than they currently...

Re: How to you construct your parts?

I base my part on what the others are playing always. Even if it's a cover song and if the other rhythm parts aren't exactly like the original, I make my part work with theirs.

Re: How crucial is stick choice to snare tone

All things being equal, I found that a thicker stick pulls out a fuller tone, both rimshots and regular hits. So you can adjust the stick weight to the tone you're after. If I had to state a...

Re: Only Weird Al Could Pull This Off-Love It

That was pretty funny but I'd rather see Weird Al playing the part of Fletcher and have Bermuda be the guy in the hot seat.

Re: Difficult band members

I think the only possible way to get what you are after, because it's a big ask, is for you to take the bull by the horns and instead of looking to find guys, or slip into an already established...

Re: Serious drummer? (I think not ;)

Great tangent. You have to remember that the goofing around that goes on with songs they don't like...I believe the audience would rather see them goofing around on a song that's "beneath" them, than...

To drummingman: A dose of strong and bitter tasting medicine may be in order here.

Re: Get off your drummer's throne and

So you're looking for someone else to write something vibrant when you could just as well do it yourself. Just sayin.

Re: Billy Cobham in Hollywood tonight!

And I'm living vicariously through you when you're living vicariously through Bo. It's not quite as good as living vicariously through Bo, but there's more people so it's funner.

Re: Get off your drummer's throne and

The forum, like everything... goes through cycles. Sometimes the threads are very run of the mill. Other times a topic comes up that gets a lot of interest. Nothing is great all the time. The same ...
