Re: Oh No, Not another Bearing Edge.

Can you do fancy things, like incrementally feather the cut between the two edges to make the gap intermittent (like a mastersound hat) to blend in the characteristics of a rounded and GT edge?

Re: Oh No, Not another Bearing Edge.

Great work. Good job.

I imagine that this edge will ultimately become useful in pro-grade hybrid setups (one GT edge, one legacy edge) as well as getting a bit more out of inexpensive...

Re: Black Beauty Head Selection?

With my BB, It's almost like their are only two heads. If I use single ply coated (Ambassador, Ludwig Medium, EC1), I get crack and a lot of overtone. If I use a control-top head, I just get crack....

Re: Dust, pitting, oxide how this can affect?

Wait.. What?

When I think of pitting, it is the voids left in a surface resulting from abrasion or oxidation. The voids can be filled, but not removed by virtue of already being... well......

Re: Dust, pitting, oxide how this can affect?

1400 for the kit with hardware is fair starting price and towards the high side. I'd offer ~1000 even at the most, considering that you've got two days worth of cleaning and polishing to do.

Re: Dust, pitting, oxide how this can affect?

The issue with dust is that it absorbs moisture and holds it against the metal. This results in oxidation even when humidity is kept low.

My recommendation: Disassemble, clean, polish, and coat...

Re: Pearl Export

I was fairly impressed with the quality of the 2014 Exports. They've added a layer of mahogany and are available in lacquer finishes. I thought that the 800 series bundled hardware was nice as...

Re: Pity me!

My guess is that Sonor has X number of manufacturing slots, and they're allocated for the first half of the year to their mass-produced kits and orders. Once a line is free, they can begin on the...

Re: DW drums being "Overpriced"

Out of the 6 times I saw the SD's, it was 4 yamaha (with the swirly BD head) and 2 DW. The two times I saw BT, one was a yamaha set, the other was a DW set. One of the DW instances was a triple...

Re: DW drums being "Overpriced"

At the same time, they took over the east coast scene as well. Think "Spin Doctors, Phish, Blues Traveler, Big Head Todd, etc"

Re: DW drums being "Overpriced"

I'm pretty sure John has a patent for "knocking on wood". I still find their abuse of the USPTO to be repulsive, and feel bad about having bought one of their BD pedals.

Re: DW drums being "Overpriced"

DED makes some good points.

The other thing worth mentioning is that DW split their value/budget drum division into PDP. This is much like Gibson owning Epiphone as a budget division.

Other...

Re: Gurus played hard!

That was wonderful. It kinda struck me as being similar to the LM400-at-the-symphony video.

Was that the studio's kit, or the drummer's personal kit (I understand if you can't tell us)?

Re: My final jazz drum set. Is it good? Anything i can improve on?

In the auction, they don't specify the hardware brand/model.. So honestly, it's probably a cheap pack.

Cat-club-jazz will go for $350-$500 used. I see a number of used ones in GC's used...

Re: Copper Phonic Video Demo

I think that this was expected to some degree, given how soft both copper and aluminum are. Copper would be one extreme whereas something like titanium would be on the other end of the spectrum. ...

Protip for guitarists.....

Expect there to be a single shitty ungrounded shared electrical outlet on the stage. Buy yourself a decent quality strip.

Indeed, though it would have been nice to see them come in at the price mentioned in the show. If I wanted to buy my kid a brand-new kit, and wanted to attempt to be a good American, it would be a...

Re: My final jazz drum set. Is it good? Anything i can improve on?

+1 for cymbals. Forget the heads for now.

Go to eBay or GC's used inventory (http://www.guitarcenter.com/Cymbals---Gongs-Drum---Percussion,Used-Gear.gc?ipp=25). Budget $125 on hats, $150 for a...

Re: Should i put a hole in my basedrum head?

Slightly costlier solution.... Buy 2 reso heads. Put a hole in one of them.

Change them out once a week till you can perceive a difference. Possibly even develop a preference.

Re: Need help identifying my drums (Ludwig? Rogers?)

I could have sworn I saw this same exact thread a while ago with quite a few responses.

Perhaps it was moved to the correct forum at some point and the responses got bungled in the process.

Re: BPM question

I just use whichever BPM/subdivision is more intuitively convenient. This is usually whichever is closest to 100.
