Re: DW Collectors Copper 14x3.5" Value??

Yeah, decided to pass. He originally said it was the 3mm solid shell, which would bring more value, but it turns out its the standard flanged shell. Sounded great but I could sell my guitar, buy the...

Re: DW Collectors Copper 14x3.5" Value??

Yeah, he has it listed on CL for $500, which honestly seems really high for me. For the 5.5 or 6.5", maybe, but I rarely see ANY piccolo at that price... One of the retailers over at DrumForum said...

DW Collectors Copper 14x3.5" Value??

I can't seem to find any of these snares on eBay, let alone a new one...

I have a trade offer on one of my guitars that I'd value around $450. I was all for trading for this snare when I thought...

Re: Gretsch Renown or Tama Starclassic B+B

Both are very nice kits.

For me, the Renowns are more of a classic, vintage sound, with a modern twist on them. The Tama B/B kits are 100% a modern sound. They are among the best kits I've...

Re: New vs Classic Supraphonic

I dunno, I vastly prefer internal muffling over external.

I'd put an internal muffler on all of my snares, if it didn't mean their value would go down :P

Re: Anyone have this new Gretsch snare yet?

^Eh, I like the aesthetics of that one a whole lot better with the single lugs.

Re: 13" vs 14" snare

+1 to this.

All of my snares used to be 13s.

Now I own 2 13" snares out of 15. Both are cool... but I generally prefer the fatness of my 14s over anything a 13 can provide... except my...

Re: New vs Classic Supraphonic

I should also note that the Acros I've owned are far more dry sounding than my Supra, even without the muffler engaged.

Re: Stave snare head recommendations?

All the stave/segmented snares I've had are very ringy. Usually I put a coated Ambassador on the batter of my snares, but that doesn't often work with my staves - the ring is often uncontrollable. ...

Re: New vs Classic Supraphonic

I don't think they sound all that different, if any at all. My modern LM402 is a ringy mofo, though, and would definitely prefer to have the internal muffler that my Acros have. No matter how much...

Re: Ludwig purchasing rant.

I just email Steve @ Russo Music and he gets me a quote back within a day on any special-order parts I need, plus he usually knocks off a bunch from the regular price. Dunno why it takes you so long...

Re: Anyone prefer standard depth?

I've been going for that "huge" snare sound for quite a while and, in doing so, have bought several deep snares:

Ludwig LM402 14x6.5
M4 Drum Co. Walnut Stave 14x8"
Keller Maple 14x8

Guess...

Re: Wood vs Metal

To be honest, I've never played a snare that was significantly louder than another. I've bought several snares where people have described them as being "very loud," but when I get them, they're not...

Re: 68 Supraphonic???

Yeah, I always have to readjust the muffler on my '65 Acro after each song. It usually turns off completely halfway into it. Probably just needs to be tightened, but I won't bother with it until I...

Re: Wood vs Metal

It was part of a liquidation of NOS Soundking shells someone sold off several years ago on eBay that a bunch of guys from Drum Forum jumped on. They were listed as "brass" in the ads, but they're...

Re: The Best Hard Rock/Metal Snare!

I like really dry snares, and I find the deeper snares I own to be very ringy.

My '65 Acrolite is my favorite snare. Despite its shallow depth, it still continues to sound far bigger than my...

Re: Wood vs Metal

I have 11 snares and the ones I reach for 90% of the time are metal. The only wood snare I couldn't live without that I currently own is my 13x6" Addiction Drum Co. Oak segmented snare. That thing...

Re: Do You Like Metal Snares?

I own (3) Acrolites, an LM402 Supra, a 13x6" Steel Pearl, a 14x5" Pearl Free Floater brass and a bronze 5" shell to swap into the FF chassis.

Really, the only wood snare I own that I really love...

Re: New to me Acrolite

Nice!

I have 3 acros - a 1965 keystone badge, which is my favorite, a newer Blacrolite and a gray-speckled shell that I'm pimping out with tube lugs, single-flanged hoops and a P-86.

Re: First time buyer advice

No offense... but while those are all great things to look for - if I was selling a drum set to someone and they came over with all these tools and wanted to take everything apart, put it on a flat...

Re: SJC, yay or nay....

Friend of mine used to play an SJC kit and it sounded great - but then again, he also paid a boatload for it... so I'd hope it sounded great. Now he's switched to another "custom" builder, who makes...

Re: Gretsch Brooklyn COB or Pearl SE?

+1 to this. I actually owned a Black Beauty and bought the Pork Pie BOB as a backup.

Ended up liking the BOB so much that I sold the Ludwig, because it sounded close enough and it was A LOT...

Re: First time buyer advice

+1, even B8s are worth more than $100, plus you get the hardware with it. $100 is about what you'd pay for a good 16" crash cymbal... so I'd just spend the extra cash and get everything in one go...

Re: Gretsch Brooklyn COB or Pearl SE?

What exactly are hoping that the Gretsch and Pearl will do that your Pork Pie won't?

I honestly don't see either of those as an upgrade to what you already have and rather, a lateral move. The...
