Re: THE GOOD SNARE THREAD

I think you should give the Pork Pie BOB a try. I've had the Bob and a lot of other brass snares sitting right beside one another and for the price, the Bob is perfect for less money.

Re: THE GOOD SNARE THREAD

I've had many snares in my life: Mapex Saturn, Dunnett, DW, etc... but I have to admit that the Mapex Saturn remains one of the best ones so far...

Re: DW or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love them

Listen to the Jazz series in any size (I have two 24"), the Classics series or a 26" Collectors.

Maple/Mahogany kits are pretty amazing...

Merry Christmas y'all!

Re: DW or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love them

Probably because you had a 22" our 20" bass. I sold mine but you're right, under the mike, they are thunderous and live, not as much. I'm now into 24" in DW Collectors AND Jazz and live as in the...

Re: Good or bad? Trading/selling my yammi absolute maple novuea for a DW Performance

I agree with most of the comments you see here. I've been playing DW for years and they are really good drums if you can afford them. If you're tired of your yammies and need the change, get a 2nd...

Re: My DW Performance Ebony Kit Pics

You're right about resonance and the L arm. Just like those guys who sit a tom on a snare stand, immediately kills the resonance.

Re: Tom on snare stand

I tried this with my DW Collectors and found it killed the sustain off of my 13". Tried it again with the DW Jazz 13", doesn't kill it at all. I think the difference is that w/ the Collectors, the...

Re: DW Jazz Series questions.

Baz, see my note up here RE EC2s. With smaller sizes I think you would appreciate heavier and clear heads for a boomy sound... It's all trial & error but worth putting your ear to. For the bass drum,...

Re: DW Jazz Series questions.

I will try something really crazy though with this Jazz kit with EC2s on top... I'll see if if the thickness gets me that some of the warmth a coated head gives me on that kit while maintaining the...

Re: DW Jazz Series questions.

I have a jazz series 24" bass, 13" tom, 16" and 18" floors. Still looking for the correct sound, Love the resonance but not crazy about coated heads. Got clear G1s as resos and it opened the toms up...

Re: Sell Tama for DW?

I simply decided to keep all, no sell... I feel better diversified this way. Got a heavy gig? I leave with the vintage and the 18", need a Tama sound, leave with the Tama... very happy this way.
