Re: Double bass kit tuning

Good post. I started using two kick drums in 1977. I've always tuned them to what I felt was as close as I could get them to sounding the same. They are close enough so it sounds good both live and...

I played the X7 kit I bought at the drum store and it was set up right next to a DW Performance kit.I also played the Performance kit, the X7's sounded just as good if not better then the Performance...

Re: The Big Kits vs. Small Kits Debate

I agree in that small space a smaller kit is required, however I won't take those gigs anymore. If I can't use my complete kit, I'm not interested in the gig.

Re: The Big Kits vs. Small Kits Debate

Very Nice kit Sticks. I've got a cargo van so transporting the kit is not problem for me. :)

Re: fastest non-triggered double bass

Exactly, if you can play it, you can play it with trigger or without. The use of triggers has nothing to do with your speed.

Re: your practice regimen

I've been playing for 36 years. I no longer practice. Never really did. I just get behind my kit and play. what ever ideas come into my head go to the kit. I play at least two hours a day, most times...

Re: The Big Kits vs. Small Kits Debate

I learned to play on an old 4 piece Ludwig kit back in 1974. I had the kit for 3 years then I started to get into bands like Rush, Emerson Lake and Palmer, early Genesis, bands that had drummers that...

Re: PDP X7

I just bought a set of X7's and love them. 100% maple shells lacquer finish. They sound way better then the price would indicate. My last kit was a Sonor S.E. kit and this kit blows that kit away....

Re: Mike Portnoy

I know this post is from 2005, but it is still one of the most ridiculous things I've ever read. All you have to do is Watch Neil play YYZ, then watch Mike play it with his Cygnus and the Sea...

Re: Sad about cymbals

I agree you will probably never get him to admit denting the cymbals, so I'd just kick his ass.

Re: Whats the difference between PDP and DW?

From the info I could find the 805's are birch shells. Personally I'd go with the X7's 100% maple, they sound great. I once owned a birch kit, it sounded nice but lacked the warmth of maple.

Re: Mapex Meridian Maple vs. PDP x7

I just bought a PDP X7 kit and I love it. I've been playing drums for 35 years, I've owned a lot of different kits and these X7's sound as good as any of them. The only thing I don't care for is the...
