Re: Accent on second stroke doubles technique question

Yeah I agree oldskool. But the teachings of these guys with video don't work with everyone or people wouldn't be asking these questions. Or that they haven't researched it yet. What Freddie Gruber...

Re: Accent on second stroke doubles technique question

I used to have insane forced doubles when I was younger because I was doing what Dave is teaching naturally (but forced). Now that I have a lighter approach to playing, my doubles sound very even...

Re: What tempo to practice at?

From what I have learned from Bruce Becker, I will add that slowing things down to around 40-60 bpm will give you the opportunity to focus on your movements.

It's about training your body/mind...

Re: Is Buddy Rich REALLY the greatest drummer of all time?

There's still no one that has his physical ability in drums. If you are going to name any top drummers of today then I know you haven't listened. Hell, there are many drummers back then, as...

Re: Is Buddy Rich REALLY the greatest drummer of all time?

I see so many saints and ignorant people speak up when there are Buddy talks. That is an actual serious comment coming from me. Y'all don't get or understand that he always spoke his mind, and that...

Re: Was anyone in the audience for Fred Armisen's Drummer's Only comedy show?

You must be a drummer because there is no mentally superior other than the singer.

Re: Bass pedal toe stop

I have no idea why they put them on there. Maybe it was requested so much or just an idea. I don't have a clue. I always take it off because I don't have a use for it.

Re: Was anyone in the audience for Fred Armisen's Drummer's Only comedy show?

I've played gigs with up coming stand up comedians in between sets. Some of them where so bad there was absolutely silence from jokes and you could feel the audience was terrified as was the...

Re: I'm tired of standard drumkits. Need inspiration and ideas

You can also use one hand to play a percussion instrument while using the other limbs on the set. Look into what the pro studio drummers get into as well. Guys like Kenny Aronoff that get different...

Re: Is Buddy Rich REALLY the greatest drummer of all time?

Yes when I was born, Buddy came to the hospital and nighted me. He cut my shoulder, slapped my momma, and I have the scar to this day. It gave me a touch of his talent which I have yet to unleash on...

Re: Is Buddy Rich REALLY the greatest drummer of all time?

Buddy is one the greatest musicians ever born. He deserves way more credit! If he would have played another instrument full time, it would be the greatest at that instrument. You can sit here and...

Re: Is Buddy Rich REALLY the greatest drummer of all time?

The guy can't play. He has too many cymbals and drums. Not once did I see or hear cowbell!

Re: Is Buddy Rich REALLY the greatest drummer of all time?

The thing is about style is that there is no style. Any of the big band drummers can play any style. That's what's missing that people don't understand. There are styles from different cultures...

Re: Is Buddy Rich REALLY the greatest drummer of all time?

If you take the subjective, which anything in the world can be, and "art" out of the equation then you still have the greatest. Why? Because there's no one that can do what he could do on drums. ...

Re: 300 BPM? Really guys?

I'll check em out. I've never heard a metal drummer groove. I've heard some guys play metal mathematical but then hear them play in a blues band with a solid groove. I just don't get it. I guess...

Re: Is Buddy Rich REALLY the greatest drummer of all time?

I believe drum set playing has NOT evolved. You also need to remember guys like Alan Dawson. He could could do more technical things than Buddy, but didn't have the insane energy that Buddy had....

Re: 300 BPM? Really guys?

It doesn't matter if it's feet or hands. It's all the same. If it's forced you can be in time playing music, but you won't get far.

About a year ago I was pushing myself with singles and doubles...

Re: Bill Bruford Authors New Book

Did anyone get this? From the description, it looks like I wouldn't get more than a couple pages into the book. There's some things that are extremely boring that I can read but when it comes to...

Re: 300 BPM? Really guys?

I wouldn't call it a fad if it is music. You didn't have guys 70 years ago that play blast beats as fast as possible(if they were alive today they would laugh at it). Some big band players played...

Re: 300 BPM? Really guys?

Is this the new fad? Being able to play fast?

The only thing that has helped me develope speed is playing exercises at about 40-60 bpm. It makes you focus on everything you're doing. There's...
