Re: Just an excuse to post a pic of my kit

Ludwig has some great mass-produced, reliably excellent snares. Some of their kits are pretty good when QC isnít an issue. I would NOT put them in the top 3 makers of acrylic kits, though. At all....

Re: Just an excuse to post a pic of my kit

Does it have to be a Vistalite? There are plenty of good clear acrylic kits out there.

Re: Favorite high end drum kit- model and brand?

The main reason I occasionally buy new kits is to find the sound that ďfits my soulĒ, so to speak.

Re: Lincoln Center Jazz Drummer job vacancy

Itís also possible that they already had a candidate picked out, and donít really need applicants, but still have to post the job.

I mean, it takes decades to learn all that stuff, and the only...

Re: Lefty drummer problems

If the student already has decent facility on the kit, I would let them play lefty, but only after cautioning them about the extra hassles of playing lefty. If they are just a beginner, I’d have...

Re: Lincoln Center Jazz Drummer job vacancy

There are VERY few players who could do all that well, right off the top of their head. Even fewer who are willing to relocate for whatever the job pays.

Re: Lefty drummer problems

Failure in teaching, for one. Itís a lot harder to demonstrate something on a kit to someone playing the opposite setup.

Also, failure in sitting in on someone elseís kit. Granted, kit setups...

Re: Lefty drummer problems

I have only ever played set the right-handed way, even though Iím strongly left-handed and left-footed. I consciously forced myself to play EVERYTHING on snare right-hand-lead only in college. I...

Re: Favorite high end drum kit- model and brand?

That can actually be found and purchased easilyó

1. Jenkins-Martin, especially for rock. They sound enormous, and are the most resonant drums out there.

2. Guru Drums, especially the satinwood...

Re: My new Yamaha Hybrid Maple.

For real. Especially one with a knowledgeable staff. Can you imagine growing up within walking distance of Steve Maxwellís, or one of the other great ones back in the day when they were still around?...

Re: Can a very (!) cheap drumset sound ok..?

1. Cardboard IS wood.
2. This is all well and good, but I basically never play miked. And often, I am playing in very intimate rooms with very sparse and quiet music. Itís like the equivalent of...

Re: I wish I didn't care when I was younger

It’s so frustrating when you can’t hear your bass player(s). I would have moved the drum set to the other side and thrown a fit if the conductor said anything negative about it. Because I’m an over...

Re: How do you practice?

Mix it up every day. Otherwise, your hands will have more trouble ďswitching gearsĒ, so to speak. I try not to spend more than 5 minutes on any one exercise at a time, I usually play buzz rolls right...

Re: Oriollo

Slightly off-topic, but I just bought a 15x5 Oriollo copper Bakar off a seller in the UK on eBay. I canít wait to get some calf heads on it. The extra inch of diameter is going to be perfect for...

Re: When did modern drum head become mainstream?

Good-quality calf is king on big floor toms and bass drums, and I like it on snare heads too if Iím playing brushes or low-volume gigs. But yeah, for loud gigs and any drum smaller than about 16...

Re: Opinion poll
