Re: Drum throne that absolutely won't swivel?

Awesome. Hope it works. Besides the advantage of a solid seat, these locks mean you don't have to over-tighten the wing bolts, which is a very good thing.

Re: Mod Orange

Very nice. I like it almost as much as that tangerine sparkle you posted recently.

Re: Drum throne that absolutely won't swivel?

I'm like you in that I don't want my seat to swivel at all. Do you know which model Tama it is? I also have an inexpensive Tama (model HT130) and I made a slight modification to stop any swivel by...

Re: The Sweetwater DW Purpleheart Drum Set seems really nice

A little off topic, but an interesting detail of the recent Blade Runner sequel was that wood was very valuable in that future world due to its rarity. I wouldn't be surprised if things are already...

Re: Why do small Bass Drums that use risers still come equipped with wooden hoops?

It's my understanding that wood hoops help bring out the low end more, which is usually desirable for small bass drums.

Re: Minimalist - Not interested in new gear?

I definitely lean towards minimalism, but it doesn't always work out. I had planned on keeping one 4-piece kit and that's it. However, minimalism in other areas of my life changed that, ironically. I...

Re: Great hip hop drummers?

It's a gem. Did you catch KEXP's special on it? They played all the original tracks that were sampled for Paul's Boutique, plus history and trivia about the album. The show went on for a full day....

Re: Bass Drum Hoop Cymbal mount

I was actually going to suggest the DW Claw Hook Clamp. I got one for my cowbell and it seems over-engineered (i.e. heavy!) for that purpose. Super sturdy. I have no doubt that it could work as an...

Re: How many different Brands do you Use?

I have two 4-piece kits representing lots and lots of different brands, to the point where it's kind of absurd to call it a Pearl kit or a Spaun kit. That sort of description leaves out so many...

Re: Craigslist WTF?

I find pricing on Bay Area craigslist to be absurd for the most part. On the rare occasion that a good deal does pop up, it disappears fast.

Re: Hip Hop Drumming!

Nope. You are not allowed to enjoy it. Sorry.

"Audio track removed due to copyright claim."

Man, youtube really sucks now.

Re: Great hip hop drummers?

True.

False. Most of it is, but some hip-hop bands use real drummers to record, and a lot more will use drummers for live shows.

True/False. There are certainly a lot of independent artists...

Re: Ian Paice

Brilliant musician. I always admired his playing, but wasn't exposed to it that much because I wasn't really into the bands he was in. I should probably revisit that music though. What would be the...

Re: Is Buddy Rich REALLY the greatest drummer of all time?

I don't think such a thing exists. Buddy is a great drummer no doubt, and I love to watch his eye-popping skills, but from that generation, I'm more inspired by Krupa.

Re: Let Them Ring To Sing

My drums stay wide open until a sound guy asks me to mute them. I've only ever had that request for my snare though.

Re: Travis Barker

Cool links. I love that first Atom Willard clip. I was actually already a fan of Santigold, so I love the combo. I see Atom takes the term "hi-hat" very literally! That said, I got no problem if...

Re: What are your bass player priorities / red flags?

Haha. Yeah I bet there is only one rock bassist who can lay down a riff on a hip hop track, wear those pants, and somehow make it all awesome:

Re: Dark Classical Music, with lots o' percussion

Haha, I hit that point about 20 years ago. Since then, I've been exploring alternative/indie rock, R&B/funk/soul, old school hip-hop, EDM, and yes classical too. I certainly revisit the classic rock...

Re: What are your bass player priorities / red flags?

A big reason why firing Michael Anthony was such an insane move for VH. (Apologies for the diversion. Former fan here still stewing about that one.)

Re: What are your bass player priorities / red flags?

Top priority for me is someone who can play time. Last bass player I worked with rushed like mad. Drove me nuts.

Re: Black Beauty next to Pork Pie

I've long wanted a BB, but could never justify the price. I ended up getting a Worldmax, which I think is what Pork Pie uses for their brass snares. No regrets at all. I love my BB knockoff.

Re: Snare vs practice pad

That's me. I may be a drummer, but I can only take so much crash-bang-boom in a day. But if I sit down with a practice pad and some headphones, I can practice rudiments til the cows come home.
