Re: What are your drumming-related quirks?

Simple and effective. I'll have to put one inside the lid of my rolling trunk!

Re: Funny the things that matter

I think the important thing here is that it matters to you that they match. So if they don't, it's going to bug you every time you sit down to play. That's not the way you want to start out each...

Your Moment of Glory

Is there one drumming event in your memory that surpasses all others? Whether you're a basement hacker or a seasoned pro, there may be one outstanding day when you passed the audition, got the gig,...

Re: Decided to try this new look!

Well, since you ask.....not my cup of tea. At all. I never liked sparkle kits and the only time I think wooden hoops look ok is when they're a contrasting colour to the wooden drums they're...

Re: Which do you enjoy most: Playing by yourself, jamming with others, or playing live?

Ever since my first High School Band concert, when the stage lights lit up the kit and those tired old cymbals shone, I've known that everything else is just the preparation for that moment.

Re: Next Stage Custom?

^ This ^

Keeping it simple is what has kept the Stage Custom kit at this successful price point.

If there are changes for the next generation, I would not assume they'll be changes for the...

Re: Favorite high end drum kit- model and brand?

I get your point. You can't always rationalize why a certain thing stirs you. Buy the kit that really speaks to you. Btw, I find certain lisps mesmerizing too :)

Re: So Extremely Proud ...

Tony, your nurturing of people and their talent deserves the best compliment I know how to give, and I mean it sincerely:

The world needs more you.

Re: Has anyone started playing out after turning 50 years old?

After 30 years of not drumming, I started practicing a bit, then found out a local concert band was drummerless and just walked in one night. (I learned to read music doing big band stuff in high...

Re: Nick Mason - Thoughts

I'm another fan of Final Cut.

I can see how it soured the others on following Roger Waters' lead from then on, but a really brilliant album. I rank it as good as any Pink Floyd album (I know...

Re: Do your hands ache when you stop playing for a while

My hands typically ache a bit and are quite stiff in the mornings, but loosen up over the course of the day. Just the beginnings of arthritis I believe.

Re: Minimalist - Not interested in new gear?

I have a great job, but I also have a big family and my wife does not work, so money for my hobby is pretty much a non-starter. When I resumed playing a couple of years ago after decades away, I...

Re: Ergonomics of Playing a Kit

I thought pretty much everything in this post was bang on and, in my case, so obvious it hardly needs saying.

With regards to the snare, though, I view mine more as the center of the clock, first...

Re: Restarting everything after 20 years at the age of 37?

You're in good company here. I quit drumming from age 21 to 51.

I've recovered most of my chops, but I don't put in enough practice time to have the polish I had when I was 19 and playing for...

Thanks for the quick and helpful replies!

I know there's a lot of it out there, but I hoped to avoid wading through all the schlock to find the good stuff, so your suggestions are appreciated -...

Worship drummer - variety?

This question is for the many drummers on this site who listen to Christian music and/or play in church.

I'm looking for music that is outside the Hillsong genre (which I commend, but it's...

Re: Famous drummers....on or off the bass drum head?

As a variation on this question, anyone passionate about heel-up / heel-down?

I play heel up usually, but when I'm playing jazz with a walking bass line I put the heel down so I can play the bd...

Re: Raising your game to work with pro's. Tips, tricks and advice?

Even if you don't help write the song, you're writing the drum part :). I'd record each song in rehearsal stage and then go home and play along to the recording, trying variation after variation in...

Re: How to practice starting off songs

I agree with Odd-Arne. Listen to a steady click for as long as you need to while "hearing" the song in your head. Don't start playing until the two are in synch. Then you should be good.

Re: Just quit a band on Christmas Day

I know how you feel. I played back-up percussion in a friend's band in college and it's not the same as sitting in the driver's seat. We won a bar band competition, each getting a share of a gift...
