Re: 12 track mixer for PA

I'd tend to agree in general that I'd slightly favor the Yamaha MG boards, but the Mackie VLZ are fine. Ultimately it depends on what kind of features and routing options you're going to want.

Re: Snare buZZZZZZ and recording

Uhhhh, yeah, that's a nice locker.

Yeah, how short are talking, here? Reflections can be a factor. I'm surprised you haven't invested in some treatment given that you haven't skimped on anything...

Re: In the studio

Since we can't hear anything, all suggestions ultimately have to be taken with a grain of salt.

At this point in my life, I'm a big fan of just paying a pro to do their thing and trust their...

Re: Metal drumming, help me choose between theses 3 sets

At normal retail prices, Saturns.

I think they're both very functional mounting systems. I actually prefer the Pearl tom mounting system as far as an easily reproducible gigging tom mount system...

Re: Drumming leading to eviction

What I think matters less than the language of your written rental agreement or lease. If you don't have something in writing allowing for an exception and making very loud noises violates your...

Re: Help finding specific Pearl tom lugs

I'd agree that you're probably going to have to keep an eye out for drums to cannibalize. With the ebay app, you can save searches and it will check for you once a day. Perhaps you can with...

Re: So....how long should it take to learn....

Well, to do it properly you need a left arm amputation. How committed are you?

Re: Why Modern Pop Music Is So Awful To Some!!!

Well, this has taken a lot of interesting twists and turns.

It's worth noting that the OP is referring to pop music in particular, so noting that there is all sorts of good modern music outside of...

Re: Does anyone transport just the drums in a trailer?

It's as easy to break into as a van for a dedicated criminal. Having good locks on the tongue and hitch helps, but all you can do is pile on deterrents and hope.

I don't understand why anybody...

Re: Does anyone transport just the drums in a trailer?

I typically put all my stuff in my 4runner, but for distant gigs I may attach my 5x8 enclosed trailer if it makes sense for the entire band to travel together.

There are currently maneuverability...

Re: Buying new drum kit

If you're buying new, you're already in budget territory. Everybody is going to recommend you get decent cymbals, because you can make low end drums sound fine with good heads, but bad bronze isn't...

Re: The needless debate over drum construction and the misguided search for undo drum resonance

To continue on the philosophical bent, I'd contend that you can't separate the player from the instrument as part of the equation. The sound that reaches a listeners ears is part of the wholistic...

Re: The needless debate over drum construction and the misguided search for undo drum resonance

What does an instrument sound like without somebody playing it? How do you qualify that the instrument itself sounds good unless it's being used?

The same drum played by you or your daughter will...

Probably not in his backyard, but certainly close enough to commute back and forth from for employment.

Re: When's the best time to buy a used shell pack?

Less to do with GAS (I think my last kit acquisition was 3 or 4 years ago), more with the almost certainty of a better deal popping up after you've recently purchased and not being liquid enough to...

Re: snare throw

It looks a lot like the Pearl SR010, which is used on their free floaters.

Hole spacing doesn't seem right though:...

Re: Do you have better luck selling shell packs or complete sets?

Oh, I should also note then when selling larger shell packs, I'll try and see if I can offload some of the rarer individual drums separately until I'm left with the more traditional 2 or 3 toms....

Re: Do you have better luck selling shell packs or complete sets?

Echoing the above, it depends on how big your local market is and what you're selling.

Low end/beginner kits with hardware and cymbals will move easily around here up to the 500 dollar mark.

If...

Re: Too Much 2 & 4

Practice odd meters. Way less intuitive to find a backbeat there. Then you can try and apply some of those groupings to common time and see if something usable comes out.

Re: Sound blending or replacement

Ding ding ding. Sometimes it's an aesthetic choice. Sometimes the songs are so overblown and dense that's the way to get any kind of presence.

Then on the flipside, you have bands that are...

Re: Sound blending or replacement

It's generally more cost effective to get punchy, tight, clean, modern sounds with samples. If your source recording wasn't done well, or if your engineer just isn't hip to how to EQ, compress, gate,...

Also entirely depends on the particular codec of the device on either end, nor are all radios and controllers in the chipsets created equal.

Re: Playing in multiple bands

Yes, do this.

You're in an original band. They're YOUR songs. You can let things live and breathe and make changes to them as time goes on. As a guy who also plays original metal as a passion...
