Re: Modulation / Displacement

I'd have to say that all depends on who it does not sound right to though....right?

I can think of much music I have heard that when I was less trained sounded like jumbled crazy that later I...

Re: african drumming - djembe

Nice videos both of you. I have done some teaching as well with underpriviliged children and at first it is tough to get focus with them but once they start to see the fun of it they begin to catch...

Re: Tommy Igoe's Great Hands For a Lifetime DVD

I've found that most apprehensions about having a teacher are more about your own apprehensions about how you will handle it, rather than a teacher actually attempting to make a clone. Its funny...

Re: The Thrill Is Gone

Been there ...know what you mean. I think this can go in waves really. Sometimes it is great to be playing ANY material (most times actually) however if stuff is stale or you feel limited in anyway...

Re: Don't film Vinnie!

Looks pissed...no doubt to me....I have mixed feelings about the whole thing....kind of a crazy thing to allow to continue to bother you although he is entitled to be as angry as he likes about...

Re: Neil Peart's drum sound

the other thing i can remember reading years ago ( I mean like 30 years ago at that) was Neil used a PZM mic on Vital Signs which was also an open/close situation like gating. If you have ever seen...

Re: Neil Peart's drum sound

I agree. In Pearts case he is playing in a 3 piece that for anyone who has seen Rush Live or has been 10-12 rows back at a show can attest...they are powerful and Lifeson's sound is layered and...

Re: Neil Peart's drum sound

its all in how you tune em......Check out many many other people who play DW.

Or maybe you don't like a really open drum sound? Peart in particular has gone to less and less muffling.

Re: Do the other band members "tell you" how to play?

Great Points Matt. I agree. This sometimes can be a tightrope walk depending on who you are working with too. I have worked with people where it was obvious it was more based out of their own ego...

Re: Non ported bass resonant head..... quick question

this is one thing I really like about the stock DW non batter head that come with the little vent holes around the radius. You get all the tone while it allows the drum to breath a little. It also,...

Re: Help out with a survey for a project?

Re: Drum Clinics: Are they really all that helpful?

LOL Perfect description....especially the guy in the back who can't hear but laughs loudly anyway.

I went to a Bozzio clinic in 86 ( the hair days) and watched as one overweight guy who thought he...

Re: What percentage do you practice bread and butter?

I guess from what I have seen/heard I have noticed some players who have blazing singles/doubles who can't "lay it down"....however only when they are marching first or rarely playing set as you...

Re: Interesting discussion during a break at rehearsal
