Re: Feeling Guilty...

I got a bass, I haven't touched my drums in 4 days. I feel like I'm cheating on my drums.

But breaks are good for you just as much as constant practice can be sometimes. They let your muscles sort...

Re: So what's your practice routine like

Depends on what I'm working on but what I usually do is a simple beat to warm up, going into sixteenths on the snare and random accents to get further warmed up. Since I'm working on my left foot's...

Re: Motivation

Oh god this. When I was in high school I loved Marching Band rehearsals, I ended up trying to join as many of the band related stuff as possible because it was fun.

Now that I'm out of high school...

Re: East Coast get together

Re: What is your local music scene?

No I'm pretty sure all of Maryland is just a massive freaking wasteland for music.

Re: Do You Play Another Instrument Besides Drums?

I recently picked up the guitar in October, and am looking at getting a bass as well. I don't really play piano but I can play simple stuff on it.

Re: Our fixed qualities

My time feel is horrible if I'm close to 120 but not on it. Spending a year straight of pretty much only playing 120 in high school to a metronome has me clocked in at that. I'll slowly speed up or...

How did they know you were the only person in Canada with one?

Re: Another sound proofing/isolation drum room thread...

A very well made soundproof room is usually as air tight as possble. Which means when you're in there you are turning oxygen into carbon dioxide. Its a safety catch.

Re: Another sound proofing/isolation drum room thread...

Make sure to get a carbon dioxide detector and make a vent. Effective sound proof rooms tend to be as airtight as possible.

Re: STOLEN Ludwig Vistalite Blue Drum Kit REWARD OFFERED

If you lost the drums because someone sold them, good luck. The person who bought them probably plan on playing them, and unless they're like Bo they're probably not going to get rid of them anytime...

Re: Tom positioning

I think its excesses on either side. I've had a really tight eight inch tom (We're talking spock on tenors tight), and when I took that sucker off it was dented to hell.

Re: STOLEN Ludwig Vistalite Blue Drum Kit REWARD OFFERED

Notify local pawn shops. You have the serial numbers. Give that info to every pawn shop you possibly can.

Also look in local pawn shops, everywhere that will buy used drums.

Re: Tom positioning

It needs to be a greater angle before I'd be worried. I'd say as you start getting over 45 degrees that you're going to start running into issues. You have to hit hard, and also depends on how tight...

Re: Vintage Kit Taboos

Who cares what you do with your kits. One of my biggest pet peeves is when another drummer will say "you shouldn't do that" simply because they don't feel its right or no one else does it.

Do...

Re: Panic

I've had this happen before. Thankfully I was only doing cymbal rolls for an Orchestra for a winter concert and it was near the end of the song.

The look that ban director gave me though makes me...

Re: Snare Tuning Help

Probably a semi low tension batter and a medium tension reso. Experiment somewhere in there. If you want to try to tune for notes trying tuning your reso to a third higher than the batter head.

Re: Paiste 2002, B8 but why do they sound so good?

Uh .01% of silver could be a huge difference. Steel can have carbon content ranging from .002 to 2.1%. So that .01% does matter.

Re: What is your local music scene?

I'm not even sure my area has a scene. Hell, I can barely find other musicians let alone bands around here.

Re: Reason why no Keith Moon type drummers exists on main stream music

Uh a few drummers use the butt end of the stick. Nicko from Iron Maiden uses the butt end of his sticks as well.

Re: Craviotto Worth The Money?

Brooklyn series is also still a high end kit. The point is poplar isn't a bad wood just because its used in cheap shells.

Re: Ever hit your drums with something other than stick implements or your hands?

Scarily enough no. Never hit a drum or cymbal with anything other than a stick or my hands. I have used marching snare sticks on my drums though.
