Re: When and audition goes great and horrible at the same time

Yeah, I have been many many times. My advice is to just be straightforward and honest and don't lead him on with any sugarcoated lies if you don't have to. He'll take it hard but ultimately he'll get...

Re: Stage presence

Logically, you make 100% sense and I agree with you. If you're solid musician that should be enough.

But the world is not logical. The truth is, seeing a live band play is a VISUAL experience too,...

Re: Is regression cyclical?

My thoughts exactly. Steve Smith is probably the most consistent drummer ever. Reason being he pays attention to every single thing he does and does it slowly, safely, and with precision.

And I'm...

Re: A question about left-handed drummers

I kind of did the opposite thing, the drummer that I played with was left handed and played a lefty kit. So when I(right handed) played on his left kit I ended up learning to lead with my left by...

Re: Favorite metal drummer?

Does Danny Carey count? If he doesn't I'd have to go with Lars.

Two ''stock'' choices, I know, I just like the parts they come up with.

Re: Is regression cyclical?

I've learned many instruments but I'm self admittedly still new to drums. However I can tell you that building speed is all about playing slow perfectly. The second you make a mistake at a tempo,...

Re: Got fired again...help...

I'm stumped, man. You play great and your parts fit the songs well. As far as I can tell, they either:

a) Don't get along with you personally or have a vendetta.

b) Don't know enough about...

Re: Schooled or Unskooled???

Ohh, he can't read himself and was ripping on the drum notation? Looks like he's just insecure and defensive about not being able to read, then. And yeah, I agree, learning to read early in your...

Re: Schooled or Unskooled???

Let's be honest here. A guitar is a chordal, melodic, AND percussive instrument whereas drums are just a percussive instrument. Not only that but the same exact pitches repeat all over the fretboard...

Re: Schooled or Unskooled???

Basically, I say one thing to people who don't want to take the time to learn to read:

''How can you say you love music and don't want to know everything about it?''

Re: WHAT ARE THE ESSENTIALS FOR DRUMMERS

I guess I'll chime in as the ''boring technical'' guy and say:

metronome.

Own a metronome. Own multiple metronomes. Play with a metronome all the time. All musicians should play with a...

Re: Need a few tips

I'm not new to music but am still a beginning drummer. There's no way around good hard practice unfortunately, and trust me I've been trying for years. Take it VERY slow. Notation helps me...

Re: Meg White

Perhaps I'm not supposed to drudge up these old threads, but I had kind of a funny observation. With all this talk about rack tom placement I can't even rightly remember a White Stripes song where...

Re: Carter Beauford

Sorry to be a bother, but does anyone know for sure if he is right handed or left handed?

I've read this thread and people have said both. Can anyone clarify on what he is naturally?
