Re: Old timey drums from Sears

Thanks fellas,

There is no Sears in Oz but there are quite a few low priced Pearl/Star stencil kits around. Might just look into it.

Cheers!

Re: Guitarist comment on drummers

I find it interesting that you brought the football thing into it. I have always considered myself to be like the offensive line. Without a good offensive line you just ain't gonna score...its...

Old timey drums from Sears

I've got a friend who has been collecting Harmony guitars for a while now. He's got a couple of different guitars and a bass. Boy do they sound amazing. My understanding is that they were offered...

Re: What's the best things about your playing?

The best thing about my playing is that I look real good :P

Re: Negotiating more money for a gig.

My experience with asking for more money comes mainly from runs on the board. If we've played a venue say 5 or 6 times and we feel that,( or have always felt) the money wasn't enough then we would...

Re: Which Blues drum set for an advanced beginner?

Obelix, you may want to consider that with a snare drum you have a myriad of head choices and loads of tuning choices at your disposal. Sure it's perhaps the drum you will be using the most but you...

Re: John Good Interview

I agree that DW has been a huge contributer to the art of making ply drum shells, but they need to overcome the hardware IMO. I would much rather purchase their Design Series than anything else...

Re: Which Blues drum set for an advanced beginner?

I'd love to fly with you here mate, but not in Australia. Everything here is twice the price...full stop...even used. And the bloke is looking for cymbals too. You might get iconic Gretsch...

Re: Which Blues drum set for an advanced beginner?

That's what I mean. Pick what you like, because you can put your hands and ears to it. In my experience these guys will give you a bit to integrate your sound. That is if you purchase a cymbal...

Re: Which Blues drum set for an advanced beginner?

If it were me in your position I'd think about spending 500 to 800 on a kit and the rest on cymbals. Gumtree is probably your best bet for the kit. There's a few on there in the Perth area that...

Re: Am I the only one here that hated the Kick Port?

I guess I like the KickPort for the reason that I can hear it better in the driver's seat. I did an experiment with and without and from the front , (3 meters away/ 10 feet), I didn't notice much...

Re: What was the name of your first bands?

My first real band that gigged was called 'The Vermicious Knids'...from Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator. I wasn't my choice, but there we are.

Re: Batter / Resonant

Fascinating read from Steve Maxwell. I, too, enjoy the sound files and would not have picked this as the tuning method. Indeed I must say I have not tried this method except on my snares. Usually...

Re: Yamaha Recording Custom - 22" kick head/tuning advice please

First thing I'd do is to take the Yammie reso off. 10" hole is basically like playing without a reso head anyway. Chuck that EQ1 on and tune it a turn or two past JAW. Try it without muffling and...

Re: Pros vs. Average Joe's

I agree with this...but, there is something that needs to be addressed. The French call it 'Je ne sais quoi'. It is something that lifts the music to another level. Sure it is played perfectly,...

Re: Broken wrist, ideas on what to practice?

About four years ago I broke my right wrist (right handed) rollerblading at the skatepark. Had to have two major surgeries, pins etc. I stuffed it up big time. Shameful as I am usually pretty...

Re: First ever Ebay buys - Meinl Byzance and Brady Jarrah / Banksia (?) ply.... and I'm in love

Cool bro,

Don't worry about particular skill level, we are all doing our level best.

Funnily enough I am a professional artist, (metals, jewellery, mainly). Yep, the aesthetic gets me too.

Re: First ever Ebay buys - Meinl Byzance and Brady Jarrah / Banksia (?) ply.... and I'm in love

You know, it's amazing but I cannot tune my snare very high ( as in tension). It just takes over. Leaves the mix behind and shouts "here I am, and I'm louder than everything else by miles"! Just...

Re: Who was your first drum clinician?

Tony Williams in Denver, Colorado in about '96. I think it was his last tour. I will admit that a lot of it was a bit over my head at the time. Hell, still is. Amazing though.

Re: First ever Ebay buys - Meinl Byzance and Brady Jarrah / Banksia (?) ply.... and I'm in love

Killer tub bro. I hope you get as much satisfaction out of it as I get outta mine. I have a 14x8 jarrah ply drum that just slays. It's the only snare that I really ever play. Interesting that...
