Re: General overall "workhorse" kit choices.

I've been using a 22 inch kick with 10, 12, and 16 inch floor tom. (And 14 inch snare, of course) Love this configuration! Seems to work well in lots of situations. Also, it all fits in my bmw...

Re: Those of you who have "sound proofed" a room for your drums...

I'd go with the pads or an electronic kit. When I was living in a condo I just got an electronic kit off eBay that has Hartke pads and an Alesis DM5 module. Works just fine...and is actually easy to...

Re: Anyone ever try to poach your seat?

Yeah, I have no problem if a guy makes it known he's available if the need arises. There was a producer/engineer/drummer who recorded one of our albums that said he was available and interested if...

Re: What full albums do you like to drum along to?

Back when I was a teenager I would play King Diamond's Abigail, Them, and Conspiracy start to finish every day after school. Mikkey Dee practically taught me how to play drums, lol
I also loved...

Anyone ever try to poach your seat?

We were doing some high profile shows last year that got us a ton of exposure, and a guy sent an email to the band gmail account questioning whether my musicianship and showmanship was enough to take...

Re: First Intermediate Kit

If you look hard enough I bet you can find a used Tama StarClassic or Taye StudioMaple kit for $600. Those are both pro level kits I think you would be happy with.

Re: Trimmed down kits

I like seeing guys use the bigger kits (usually), but until I get some roadies I'm sticking with the 5 piece, lol

Re: How do you feel the day after a gig?

The only thing i've been getting is tendonitis in my left hand when we're out playing multiple days in a row. It sucks.

Re: Trimmed down kits

I can't stand playing on a 4 piece for whatever reason. I go with the straight up 5 piece all day, every day. (Meaning 2 rack toms...not one up, two...

Re: Help Choosing A Bop Kit

The Taye GoKit is worth a look. Blended birch/basswood shells, kick is 18x7.5, 13 inch snare, toms are 8, 10, and 12. A new shell pack would probably run 7-800.

Re: Starting to teach.

The book I use for beginners is Carmine Appice's Ultimate Realistic Rock. It's the same one I started out with myself. I also bring photocopies of the 40 rudiments.First lesson will include an...

Re: About to start learning. Tips please :)

Yes, get lessons! Also, I know you want to rock that double bass, but don't neglect that left foot for open hi hat stuff either.

Re: Deal of a lifetime or ripped off for being gullable

I got my Sonor S-Class 4 piece from a Guitar Center for $750. So 3 drums for $600 isn't really that great of a deal (if they're legit Sonors...which these do not appear to be.)
Also, if you...

Re: Pros vs. Average Joe's

One thing I've noticed from pros is consistency of strokes. Through their hours of practice, years of performing, etc, They hit the drum pretty much exactly the same way every time. (I'm not...
