Re: Yamaha Drums

Thanks Neal. I think there are some similarities in our setups, though I've never sported one that included a gong. ;-)

The tambourine is just mounted on a gajate bracket. I'm not crafty enough to...

Re: Yamaha Drums

Very nice Neal! Doesn't get more classic than that piano black finish!

Speaking of Absolutes, here's a "reverse Gadd hybrid" (MCA toms, BCA kick) using some of my Cherrywood bank at a recent gig:...

Re: What's your latest purchase?

Thanks brother! It's a birthday present from my wife and daughter so I told Andy to hold off on shipping it until next month. Otherwise, I would be out of my mind trying to resist unpacking it.

Thanks!

Yes, aluminum lugs (done in-house, except for the chrome plating). I'm looking forward to her arrival!

Re: 18" bass drum for rock!

Classic album! And yes, a great example of an 18" bass drum doing it all.

Re: If I would just buy one book on coordination...

Ari Hoening's Systems, Bk. 1 (http://www.amazon.com/Systems-Bk-Drumming-Technique-Independence/dp/0739080156/ref=pd_bxgy_14_text_z) does a good job of covering all three triplet notes.

Re: Self Indulgent Ego Massage....

In my world, the biggest compliments are when people want to play with me, especially if they want my playing to be a recorded/documented part of their project. So I reckon you're doing some things...

Re: Gig etiquette pet peeves!

Ugh, been there before. Thoughtlessness and disrespect are pet peeves of mine as well. Actually, not "pet" peeves, just peeves. ;-)

Re: Yamaha Drums

Thanks Neal. It's actually Black Wood. And I'm keeping her--finding the right head made a big difference...though I still may have her cut down at some point.

Re: Oriollo Phantom, spun aluminum

I dig the lugs and the customization element. Just ordered one this morning.

BTW, not the only snare drum I've ordered recently...;-)

Re: If I would just buy one book on coordination...

What a great summation. I love getting this kind of payoff after putting energy into engaging with a drumming book.

I actually studied with Skip back in the day and it's cool to see that he has...

Re: What Drum Moments Give You the Chills

You got that right. I mean Bill kills everything he does--the groove, the textures, just the continual expressions in his playing that I find so engaging. This cat is all about telling stories with...

Re: Tony Williams's Drumset and the Nub of Great Drummers

Another gem of a post, Scott.

Compared to some drummers, I think Tony's musical identity became more inextricably linked to those drums (and to some degree, the Nefertiti cymbals). I would even...

Re: Drummer- the only musician that can't mess up?

For me, what this question gets at is the fact that ours is the most powerful instrument in most ensembles. We really can make it or break it.

Re: 1 up, 2 down - opinion on FT sizes

Re: Tempo Training Program?

Good stuff from Todd and Bermuda.

I've also gotten a lot from this: http://inchronicity.com/

And, Benny Greb's latest DVD is sort of a compendium of ideas and practices related to this.
