Re: First time drilling a shell

Nice Spauns, stix! I didn't know those were Ludwig mounts that Spaun uses. They are definitely nice, and I assume that's what's attached to the RIMS mounts on your rack toms, so it makes sense to...

Re: The worst gig of my life

Yeah, good point, but it's a double-edged sword. Since I put so much time/work/research/money/etc into my kit, I'm not too keen on bringing it to a dive bar gig where there's a not-so-remote chance...

Re: The worst gig of my life

Yeah, less wear and tear on my gear is a positive I've considered as well. For backline gigs, I bring my stick bag, cymbal bag, throne, snare, and kick pedal as these are the only critical things I...

Re: Gear fail - handled beautifully :)

Ha. Total pro. I think the key is relaxation. I actually practice this at home, like dropping a stick, relaxing, and reaching for another stick while concentrating on keeping a steady beat with one...

Re: First time drilling a shell

Thanks!

I'm pretty happy with the sound of the drum as is, but it couldn't hurt to give these a try. Always room for improvement. They're pretty cheap, no?

I bought this bit from the...

Re: Snare Drum made from Seamless Stainless Steel Pipe

44 pounder. Wow. Looks great. Looking forward to the sound file.

First time drilling a shell

I've always preferred floor toms fitted with legs, so that was a consideration when I was looking for a kit back in 2005. At the time, "fusion kits" with hanging toms seemed to be all the rage, so it...

Re: The worst gig of my life

I love it when there's a backline kit. Means I don't have to haul/setup/breakdown/haul my own gear. Maybe I'm just way lazier than the rest of you.

Re: Sonor vs. DW

A legend in your own mind, eh? People whose opinions are truly respected don't need to try to convince others of the fact.

Re: Sonor vs. DW

That might be worth something if people gave a flip what you thought.

Re: Last piece of gear you forgot?

This is actually one reason why I've been scaling down my kit. The less you have, the less you have to forget, and the easier it is to keep track of what you do have. I've only ever forgotten the...

Re: Peart - would you hang out with him?

Wow, that is so cool! That would have been Peart's first Rush tour, yes? Those guys were just young whippersnappers back then! What was the show like?

Also very cool.

Great example. (Nice playing too!)

Re: Blurred lines ripped off the "feel"

I'm on the fence. This is such a difficult issue. I wonder if a person's opinion is affected by their knowledge (or not) of Gaye's song. I love "Got To Give It Up" and it's been in my collection for...

Re: Peart - would you hang out with him?

I would add that anyone who has been in the game that long probably has a TON of crazy and fascinating stories from touring and the music industry in general, so hanging with any such person could be...

Re: Peart - would you hang out with him?

I was a fan as a kid in the 80s, but I've drifted away from Rush and Peart since then, so I really don't know that much about him anymore. However, I still remember some stuff I read in Modern...

Re: Just starting at 53 and will need all the help I can get!

Agreed. I would add that if you were to splurge a little on drums, I would make it the snare drum. A kit consisting of high quality snare and cymbals mated with low end kick and toms can be made to...

Re: Anti-Slip Drumsticks?

I was dropping a lot of sticks when I was green and had poor technique. The stick drops became less and less frequent as I got better and improved my technique. So now, I just keep a couple sticks...

Re: I'm going to see Billy Cobham live!

I also saw BC at a clinic in the 80s. I was just a kid at the time, but he basically struck me as a really nice guy who also happened to be a great drummer. Enjoy the show!

Re: What makes a pro kit?

I take the term literally. So a "professional drummer" is someone that makes a living playing the drums. Doesn't matter if they're good or not. If drumming is their primary means of income, and they...

Re: How about a 22x13" ?

Wow, thanks man! Yeah, it's a blast to play and I really do love it.

Yeah, now that you mention it, it is really cool to see the kick pedal through clear heads. I think even some non-drummers...

Re: How about a 22x13" ?

Thanks guys! Actually, I used to have one of these resos on an old Tama kit, except it had the Tama logo on it. I never knew you could buy one separately until now.

Re: My drum teacher failed me.

No worries, mikel. I wasn't being defensive by quoting you. I was just using your post as an example to illustrate how a random person who posted a few lines on the internet covered the subject...
