Re: Do you have a piece of equipment that you've used since day 1 and still use it regularly?

Yes my Pearl Steel Snare that I got with my first kit, a Pearl Export.

Still use it live and used it in the studio last month for a heavier track we're releasing as a single over the coming...

Re: Why Modern Pop Music Is So Awful To Some!!!

My 'two cents'

It's never been an easier time to discover music you've never heard before in any style- especially outside of what's spoon fed to you by major radio stations. Most of the online...

Re: Musician vs Artist

Similar to Larry, I'm not a fan when drummers refer to themselves as an artist.

It's pretentious and a half in most contexts. I cringe sometimes when that happens.

If someone describes someone...

Re: Are DW drums still cool?

My DWs ring for days, really the opposit to what people are explaining in here. Even with 2 ply heads.

Each to their own though, it's all subjective and I'm very happy with mine and how they...

Re: Important announcement - Guru Drums

I'm coming to the UK Drum Show now for sure, Andy.

Not missing your last Guru stand. Try not to have too many snares for sale on show, Dawn may kill me when I get home.

See you soon!

Re: Can you be a good drummer with bad math skills?

In school/college I failed Maths three times. Once in my final 'GCSE' year, again in college and again at a night class.

It's never set me back in life as I'm pretty nifty with a calculator. I...

Re: Making the jump to two bass drums!

Haha, sorry but that made me chuckle.

Nice kit

Re: What killed off Slingerland?

I play what looks like an identical kit (it has black and silver hoops though as the only difference) at our main rehearsal room and I can vouch for how good that series sounds.

Congrats!, I'm...

Re: What killed off Slingerland?

The Nashville Radio Kings are great drums, I own a Nashville 14 x 5.5 Radio King (in gold sparkle) and it's unreal - it looked unused/brand new and even came to me in the original Slingerland box....

Re: Playing in multiple bands

I was in three original bands until recently.

It wasn't too much of a chore musically as I'd put aside time in the days leading up to a gig/studio date/rehearsal to prepeare and run through the...

Re: Moving on

I think you just need to be open with them but if your bandleader is a taskmaster my advice is also to keep it short and to the point. Especially if you're not keen on discussing reasons with him in...

Re: Y'all ever seen this dude?

Sorry but Mustang Sally really isn't the pinnacle/basis of drumming. Amazing how many times this song comes up on this forum.

So anyway, back to the video. Young kid having fun and playing better...

Re: Advice on kickstarting a drumming career

Some good advice there Dr Watso, on the above though I'd exercise some caution with this.

You don't really want to known as the budget option as when you do need to raise your price if things take...

Re: Creating drum parts with hearing protection!

Like others have said use protection that limits the sound as opposed to blocking it.

Once you get used to the change now that you've recently invested in some protection that'll become the norm...

Re: Which do you enjoy most: Playing by yourself, jamming with others, or playing live?

I really enjoy all three in equal measure

Love playing with others as you're collaborating/creating/reacting to each other's play together as a team. Sometching special about that.

Love playing...

Re: Guess what I left at home?!

I’ve only left my sticks at home once, that was many years ago before I owned a stick bag and used to just pack them in my cymbal bag freely. These days I have a stick bag that never leaves my cymbal...

Re: Off to see a potential Gadd-fest next month

I think all the musicians I know went to the Hyde Park gig!

I was tempted but the ticket prices were a little too much for me.

From what Iíve seen though it looked a good show.

Re: Rim, or block?

I mark a line on the diameter of my sticks with a marker pen where it’s the perfect point for a cross stick.

Really does help with a consistent sound, especially when cross sticks aren’t all the...

The Freddie Gee drum academy is happening in the U.K. at the end of this month.

A camp with well known pros attending as instructors.

Re: Different finish kick and toms

I've seen Brad Wilk (from 'Rage Against the Machine'/ currently 'Prophets of Rage') do this often and I've always thought a red bass drum and natural toms setup looks cool.

One photo I've found.

Re: Can a very (!) cheap drumset sound ok..?

The set should be setup on stage for other members of the band who are determined to have their own drums/percussion to occasionally hit.

That should end that craze pretty soon!
