Re: Pork Pie Hip Pig Eastern Mahogany Snare

I almost got one of these at least 6 times, that's how tempted I was. However I didn't know how much, if any, improvement this would have been over my 13X7 Ddrum Dominion Maple snare.

How is the...

Re: Giving bandmates rides to gigs!

Ask for gas money, especially if it is long distance.

I am the person with the truck & camper shell in our band, so by default we use it to haul ourselves and our equipment. For anything over 50...

Re: THE CLASSIFIEDS - For Sale / Wanted

Looking to sell a couple of my cymbals:

20" Sabian HH Duo Ride - Excellent condition, brand new as of late summer 2014, used very lightly as a secondary ride. Makes a great jazz ride, darker more...

Re: Deceptively cool and challenging drum tracks...

I agree!! Just had this conversation last week as it has been one of our troublesome covers. The energy for the opening half comes from the guitars / vocals, the drums are just sorta along for the...

Re: Anyone suggest good drum bags?

I have a set of Ultimate Support soft cases that have worked great for me. Supplemented that with Gator bags which also seem to be well built. Both are well padded and have a strong nylon type...

Re: screwed up my first gig

It's all about keeping a cool head and having a quick seamless recovery. Dropping sticks? Should be expected, so have a stick bag or holder close. I keep a minimum of two pairs in a stick bag that is...

Re: Band PA ownership options - thoughts, experiences

Mostly A for us, though I've given the other members the option of buying it for the band. Same goes for a lot of our other equipment, just the reality of me having the most disposable and steady...

Re: Sonor-king of the micro kits?

We did a gig about a week ago and one of the drummers there had a Mapex custom micro kit and it looked badass. Problem was once he started playing it the sound, mainly the bass drum, was very...

Re: Groove and studio recording

I'm talking about material that has been played many, if not hundreds of times in practice and a live setting than entering a studio to record. We tweak the material over a long period of time. The...

Groove and studio recording

Serious question here. How does one get groove on a studio recording when you record like this"

1. Lay down scratch track with main players and get primary drum tracks
2. Rerecord rhythm
3....

Re: Gorilla Music

Update, I convinced the other members to drop a few weeks before the show for the reasons mentioned above. At least two other bands did the same thing, which still left 5 bands on the bill. Not a...

Re: Anger, dismay and confusion

Recordings are good. They can can be a moral builder, a learning tool, and sometimes a reality check. Nothing wrong with any of those things.

Re: Light up drums??

I picked up 2 15 ft multi color led strips, and a sound activated controller with power supply. It isn't specifically for the drums, but could be adapted. They have multiple modes that can be set...

Re: Poll: do you double bass?

I am really surprised at how many players here don't use double bass. We play mostly alt rock, but hang out and perform with a lot of other bands who are in the metal scene were double bass is a must.

Re: Poll: do you double bass?

Somewhere between # 2 & 4.

I have tried various double pedals from no name, PDP, Axis, and currently have an Iron Cobra Junior (light and smooth). But I don't use it. Spent way too long with a...

Re: Does anyone actually like big finales?

I'm open to finales, but believe either the whole band is involved or no one otherwise it is just showboating.

Re: More Creative on a Larger Kit

I'm not creative enough to play on a 4 piece, so I use a 6 piece with as many cymbals. Honestly I use more traditional rock fills and feel limited with less than 3 toms. A 7 piece is just a little...

Re: Gorilla Music

Yeah, we are more alt rock, some other bands listed range to x-metal. So it is a rather mixed bill. Some of the younger bands on the bill are treating this like it is their big break, which I guess...

Gorilla Music

I've heard and seen plenty of negative things about these guys. Well a few weeks ago they contacted us about an end of month show for August, it was pretty easy to decline since we are booked every...

Re: Gigs - like buses

That's how it has been for us for the last year, dead silence then 3 - 5 bookings all at once. It has allowed us to stay booked about 1 - 2 months in advance. Next goal, be one of the bands that is...

Re: Contrats To Bermuda!

Based on the social media blitz this last week I knew it would be successful. Most of the tracks are also top quality, right up there with Straight out of Lynwood. Looking forward to the tour now....
