Re: 16" bass drum... Hints/Suggestions?

I use Danmar's tom kick riser for this purpose. Great although expensive. I got mine second hand in eBay at a reasonable price. I donīt use it much, but I like to have it in case the need arises, you...

I am about to order a new Cocktail kit from a custom drums company. Maple Keller shells, 6 ply 10x6 snare and 8x6 tom, and 8 ply 14x26 main bass/tom drum.

-yes, that's my instinct.. this month. IMHO it's easier to tune and more versatile.
-bigger contrast with the 16"
-possibility to buy a matching 13x9...

12x8 vs 13x9 tom on a four piece kit

Going for a new four piece kit. Probably Ludwig Legacy or Classic Maples.

I know it's going to be 22x14 BD, 16x16 FT, and probably 14x6,5 or 14x5,5 snare. I donīt care much about the snare since I...

Re: Thoughts on the 13" tom

I can tune my 12x8 to sound close to a 10" or a 13". 12x8 are versatile. But when I try to tune my 13x9 to sound like a 12", it just doesnīt sound right.

Re: Rack tom on snare stand

A part of the resonance thing, there is also the question of how comfortably the tom can be positioned using a snare stand...
I might use this method with a 20" bass drum, but I will not use it with...

Re: Thoughts on the 13" tom

I think one reason why the 13x9 became popular on the classic 4 piece sets was that they produce such a LOUD volume, and this could be useful when amplification was not available. This is not...

Re: Thoughts on the 13" tom

I find the 12x8 tom easier to tune than the 13x9, even when used alone.

In a four piece set most people would choose one of the two classic configurations 12T 14FT 20BD or 13T 16FT 22BD, but I...
