Thanks for the all the replies, sorry I haven't kept up with the responses.

You may have seen my earlier thread about starting my 8 year old on drum lessons. In that thread I was hoping to get suggestions on a decent drum set for him to start with. Many of the responses...

Re: Son starting lessons - Help

Exactly where did I say the goal is to become a professional musician? All I have been saying is my son wants to learn to play drums and take lessons. I have told him I am unwilling to shell (hah!)...

Re: Son starting lessons - Help

Yep, that's the dilemma. You hear it from both sides:

1) I was forced to practice and I burned out and quit.
2) My parents didn't make me stick with it and I quit, and now I regret it. I wish I...

Re: Son starting lessons - Help

Again, thanks for the replies.

Let me stress again, I am not using Rock Band as a substitute for formal lessons (although I could see how that would be one interpretation). What I'm using Rock...

Re: Son starting lessons - Help

Thanks all who have replied. Whether I end up taking your advice or not, it is still appreciated.

I understand the arguments against RockBand...that it doesn't really teach you how to play an...

My son just turned 8. He has been asking to take drum lessons for about a year, but I was worried it was just a phase (we had been burned a bit by his older brother and the guitar). Their interest,...
