Re: Dave Weckl

The debate between technique and Soul is a valid one, and the two are not mutually exclusive, however, one comment complaint of Weckl is that, while he possesses immense amounts of technique and...

Drum Grip- keeping the opening in your hand

When I look at pictures of great drummers- John Bohnam, Jon Theodore, Aaron Spears, Virgil Donati, they don't usually have that space between their thumb and forefinger open, and yet, everyone touts...

Mark Guiliana

Mark Guiliana...Has anyone heard this cat? He plays in a group called "Heernt," who really can not fit into a specific genre, although its very Jazz-based, yet totally different and unclassifiable....

Re: Post your Greatest Weakness

Practice is my biggest issue, and the cause of this is a negative mindset, which is what I would label as my biggest weakness. My goals are quite lofty, and the gap between my goals and my current...

Re: Dave Weckl

He's just so pleasant to listent to. Every sound he gets out of every drum and system... it just feels good just to listen to. But, he never really lets go and just goes nuts. I'm impressed by...

Re: Elvin Jones

[QUOTE=Zackman] Mine would have to be My Favourite Things by Coltrane. Great song. Just started this to honor a legend. [QUOTE]

Me too! That is my favorite all-time jazz song. It's so...

Re: Abe Cunningham

He's ridiculous. Genius. Perfect for the deftones. It makes it so Raw, and in your face. His pedal work is amazing (I thought he only had a single-bass drum pedal?)

Re: Fastest Double Bass Player?

Yeah, but what does 650 BPM mean? Does that mean if you set to 650 BPM, you hit it every beap, or more than one time between beaps?

Re: Fastest Double Bass Player?

There's some kid on this forum who is now touring with vital remains. He posted under "extremely fast-drumming." It's pretty amazing. I can't remember his name. H'es only in his early twenties, I...

Re: Keith Moon

I can appreciate that last post about Moon being the first drummer to really stand out from the other instruments, but what about John bonhamn, Buddy rich, Gene Krupa, and all of these showmanship...

Re: john dolmayan of system of a down

He's so unique. His choice of grooves and fills are so real and somehow unrepetitive (I don't get sick of it). The band itself is amazing. To articulate that much in that kind of style is not easy...

Re: The Almighty Elvin Jones

I love all of his live stuff with Coltrane. "Spiritual" is a GREAT tune. "Afro Blue" and "My Favorite Things" too. He is SO intense during Afro blue from Live at the Birdland. It's one of my...

Re: Derek Roddy

This guy is absolutely sick, and I"m not even into this type of music. How does one get their feet so fast. His feet are faster than my hands!

What are blast beats, or blasts as you called them?...

Re: Danny Carey

Yeah, I think I could do it, but it wouldn't be nearly as good. He plays almost mathematically, like each fill is a logical deduction for which there can be no other solution, kind of like Neil...

I think pretty much everything he does is perfect. Nobody could be in that band and do it better.

Re: Danny Carey

I still don't know how he plays the intro and especially the middle fill to "sober." It seems impossibly fast, like it shouldn't fit in the measure, but it does. It's absolutely incredibly. His...

Re: Keith Moon

Ah, that's holarious, and totally true, but that's what I love about him.

His philosophy was that drums could be a lead instrument. You have to understand Keith, you have to learn to love him...

Re: Most Under-rated Drummers

I totally agree with this thread. I don't think I could keep such a groove on such songs and hold back on filling. They are very unselfish in this aspect, and as such, are great musicians.

To...

Re: Lars Ulrich

I think Lars is very musical in his drum playing. Considering the slow tempos of many of the songs, he keeps a VERY deep pocket, and has incredibly tasteful fills and phrasing. I think he fits...

Re: Dave Weckl

Dave does great incredibly sounds out of his drums. He hits them perfectly, and gets the best crack out of his snare drum. He is not very animated, but that is his style. If he was any other way,...

Re: Tony Royster Jr.

I've heard only what I saw on Drummerworld, but I gotta say, he's freaking sick! I can't belive he won the guitar center drum off at 10. That's upseen. Being mentored by Dennis Chambers is quite...

Re: Neil Peart

I think he is the best drummer ever, in his own way. This might seem outlandish, but it comes from him being my first exposure to a superstar drummer, yet that impression persists through today....
