I've got the Black Galaxy version, sometimes referred to as a "Blackrolite". It sounds dry and loud. Has a great 'pop'. Pricewise - if tough to find a better snare.

I'm back at it too, after a long lay-off. I just jammed occasionally over the years for fun, but I barely got to play. Then a few years ago, I began jamming regularly with some friends and strangers...

I purchased The Gretsch Catalina - same set, same color, about two weeks ago. Man, I love them. I never used the factory batter heads on the toms though. I bought G2's and put them on immediately....

Did you get the green set in Rhode Island. If yes, then, I don't like you. I saw them and was going to get them. I called GC and they said they were gone. If you got them - Congrats!!

I remember seeing him and Flora Purim in Boston, at the Orpheum Theatre, years ago. He did a tambourine solo for, what seemed like, 10 minutes and was enthralling.
