Re: Seeking Metal Drummer with mics

I have to ask: is Expertvillage just an account made to troll people with intentionally bad videos? I've never been 100% sure...

Re: First Audition

Well, I just got back from the audition.

I'll start off by saying that yes, I got the gig :D
They auditioned a couple of other drummers, but apparently I was the best fit both personality and...

Re: Don't let "the man" bring you down!

Thanks for sharing. As a newly gigging drummer, this is definitely something I'll keep an eye out for.

Re: First Audition

Thanks for the advice, everyone. There's definitely some stuff here I hadn't considered. I'll report back with the results come Monday!

D'oh! Throne, see now that makes sense. Knew I was forgetting something...

First Audition

Hey all!
A couple nights ago, I was browsing my local Kijiji listings, and noticed someone had placed a "Drummer Wanted" ad in the actual percussion area of the site.
So I skipped on over to the...

Re: Cool Moment

Hey Mike, that is a pretty neat experience.
Being 20 myself, I'm glad to hear you had a good time, and that the guy didn't validate the stereotype of us youngsters being callous.

Cheers mate!

Re: How do you not hear your bass drum?

Sometimes when I find myself having a metal jam, my bass drum really becomes lost in the mix of things. We jam unmic'd in a small room, and I tend to feel the bass drum more rather than hear it. Mind...

Re: Left foot clave, best pedal mounting?

I actually bought the Gibraltar mount today for a cowbell. It seems to be sturdy, like most Gibraltar stuff I've seen. It was also only $40, so I really can't complain.

Re: Terry Bozzio: All Cymbals

That's... Interesting. Leave it to Bozzio to do this, but it actually sounds pretty cool.

Re: How do you guys learn songs ?

I usually learn songs by ear, or as with the Danny Carey stuff, look at a video if something is particularly tricky. Tabs are useful to me for figuring these sort of things out as well.

Otherwise...

Re: Tama Starclassic Maple vs SLP G Bubinga

I've got the G-Bubinga, and it's a lovely snare. It takes both high and low tunings really well, and it a little bit on the dry side. It can really crack, but its also really sensitive, if you want...

Re: A kit to call my own, without starting a drum company

Now that kit is METAL.

Nice attention to detail, that finish looks immaculate. Really a great job.

Re: Double Bass at Home vs. at the Gig

Yep, I'm definitely the same way. If I take my bass drum out of the room it's in, and bring it anywhere, it feels off. Even if it's just at a friend's for a little jam, it just doesn't quite feel...

Re: Tama SLP G-babinga VS Pork Pie BOB

I've used the HD Dry Genera batter on my SLP G-Bubinga before, and I must say, for a drum that's a little on the dry side already, this combo turns it into an absolute crack monster.

It'll have...

My favourite drummer for melodic parts is Gavin Harrison.

Re: Snares vs cymbals

Currently I have only one snare drum, but as far as I'm concerned, it's more than capable of covering anything I can think of. Ideally I'd like to have a side snare as well; hopefully sometime soon....

Re: Band vs Drummer?

It's the same for me, here. I love listening to Portnoy in all his bands, whereas if Gavin Harrison isn't in Porcupine Tree... Not my cup of tea. But then again, the genre matters to me as well.

Re: Gretsch From the NAMM Show

Yikes!

Those prices are pretty insane, but I'll be damned, there are some pretty beautiful looking drums there. Those inlays in particular, caught my eye.

Re: Band vs Drummer?

On top of what Mad About Drums has stated, I'd also suggest that the drummer is also somewhat constrained by the band itself.

A drummer in multiple bands is more than likely playing a few...
