Re: Sonor vintage series

Great looking kit, I really dig those sizes too.

Re: Buyers Remorse ?

It shouldn't, but you should try and get some money back your way because of it.

Re: Buyers Remorse ?

That Yamaha deal is a pretty good one since those Cymbals would cost you almost $1000 just by themselves. They are great cymbals, I actually use the bigger thinner version of those same cymbals (15"...

Re: Good trade?

Are you trading the drums for new stuff or used stuff? I know that Mapex resell values aren't the best, but used those cymbals and cymbal stand go pretty cheap. Even if they are brand new I...

Re: Starclassic maple or DW collectors

I agree with everything everyone has said. DW will hold their value better, like everyone has mentioned I've also seen Starclassics go super cheap on the used market. However, DW's have a signature...

Re: Picking a cajon

Just make sure it is all wood. I think Meinl makes one that's pretty cheap that Guitar Center sells that is particle board and sounds like it too.

Personally I prefer Snare Cajons over String...

Re: Famous drummers mixing cymbal brands

A friend of mine, not a famous drummer but a Bosphorus endorser, used to mix in other brands of cymbals. However, his endorsement said that he couldn't be seen using other cymbals, so he basically...

Re: But What To Wear?

I agree with Bo, when in doubt wear black... of course not if your in Texas in the middle of the summer at an outdoor gig :) . However, my rock and jazz wear is pretty much the same, dress shirt,...

Re: My 1st drum kit - PDP CX Series. Advice for an old newbie??

I had a PDP CX in Silver Sparkle that I got in the mid 2000s, it was a great kit and did me well for a while.

To the OP: Congrats on the buy, it is a great kit that should last you. Don't give...

Re: DW Performace or C&C

Two totally different kits. Depends on the sound you want, vintage vs modern. Personally I prefer the C&C.

Re: Old timey drums from Sears

Silvertone has never made anything, it is just a stencil brand. For example Silvertone guitars were made by Kay, Danelectro, Harmony and other companies, amps by Danelectro. But yes Silvertone used...

Re: Old timey drums from Sears

If you don't want to do the vintage Gretsch/Ludwig/Slingerland thing you could always look out for one of the many Pearl stencils. There's a ton but the ones I've seen most are Apollo, Astro,...

Re: Help with color choice

Reminds me of my first set I got in college, was a mismatched set in pieces that I got for $20. The wraps were basically just taped on there. I pulled them off, stained the shells in black, and...

Re: Gigging Kit Help?

Honestly as a sound guy it is pretty doable to make junk drums sound good, and almost near impossible to make junk cymbals sound good. At least get bronze cymbals (the HCSes aren't bronze), it's...

Re: Tuning Toms??

I've heard of a bunch of people that tune their batter lower than the resos but I've never liked it that way. I either tune them to match or the batter a bit higher than the reso , but that's just...

Re: Snare for a $200 budget

+1. I've gone through several snares but my 14x6.5 Supralite has been my main for a while.

Re: Club Date SE or Signet?

Personally if you can get the Signets for less than the Club Dates, that's what I'd go with. I was looking at the two as well, and like you ended up getting the Signets for a really good price so...

Re: looking for new metal snare.

Acrolite is a wonderful drum, and quite widely used. The Supralite is also a great inexpensive drum. I used to own an Acro and sold it (I regret it), and I currently have a 6.5x14 Supralite, both...

Re: Versatile Snares

Ludwig Supralite is a great snare drum, and you'd actually still have some money leftover for sticks and/or heads.

Re: Ludwig's new Signet 105 drum line!

It's great and sounds great. With head changes you do have to be careful with the lugs as they will shift, I haven't had one fall out though. I didn't really like the stock heads and have been in...

Make sure you think it through carefully before you take the red pill, there's no turning back from it.

Re: Which is/was heavier - Sonor Designer or Yamaha RC?

I have a friend of mine who has a Sonor Designer kit, and yes they weigh a ton but as others have said most of that was due to all the metal on it. As far as just the shells themselves, hard to tell.

Re: Looking for help choosing a pro level drum kit

+1. Especially if your going to be studying jazz, cymbals will be important more so than your drums.
