Re: Drummers around 5'6" - What size drums do you have?

I'm a short guy myself, 5'7" and I play a tama rockstar kit with 22" bd, 10,12" toms up front and 14, 16" floor toms. I play metal and like my kit close to get good rolls in. What I did was moved the...

Re: Jamming quietly/silently

Ok, I came up with this solution, with our guitar player. He has an 8 channel USB recording interface and adobe audition, we are going to all plug into that, then use the laptop for our headphone...

Re: Jamming quietly/silently

so for the guitarist and bass to get a tone they like, what would they do? Also doesn't the PA need speakers hooked up to it? Would we just turn the mains down and turn the monitor section up, and...

Re: Jamming quietly/silently

I live in northern alberta in a small oilpatch town. There isn't a jam rehearsal spot in this town, I've been looking for months. If there was a room for rent, it would be more like 1000$ a month,...

Jamming quietly/silently

Hey folks.

I have jammed in my house full volume for the last 7 years, and now my wife has had enough. I play metal of course, so she's had it. Anyway, I'm the only guy in the band with room to...

problems with double bass 16ths

Hey guys,

wondering if any of you have run into this problem. I used to play in a pure death metal band about 2 years ago and was able to play 16ths no problem to about 180-190, then 200 for about...

Re: Metalcore drum help.

I've heard enough horror stories about DDrum kits to stay far away personally. Go with a well established brand imo, they all make good drums. Try and get something that's made with birch or maple as...

punk rock beats, doubles on kick

Hey all

I'm a metal guy who has focused on doublebass and blasting for a long time, and recently quit my deathmetal band I was playing in. Now I'm playing in an oldschool thrash/hardcore style...

Re: DOUBLE BASS DRUMMING

you don't really start using your ankles much in double bass drumming until you hit around 180bpm 16ths. For me, anything below 150bpm 16ths is all leg, then you start to add a bit of ankle movement...

Re: keeping legs in shape

whatever you do, if you want to play well, don't do heavy squats or deadlifts and drum! Your legs get just wasted and you can't control them. I am a workout freak and I stopped doing them all...

just like jojo mayer says, you can only play as fast as you hear...

On the rare occasion I get to play my kit without a band, I don't play with triggers because I can hear myself. Even when I'm...

Re: Double bass, gets worse before it gets better?

I think the hardest part about double bass is relaxing when you are going fast. When you go above about 170 you start using almost pure ankle movement, which feels wierd, you aren't hitting as hard...

Re: Alesis D4 Audio Trouble

you run a 1/4" patch cord from the main outs in the back of the D4, to a 1/4" input on the pa or amp or whatever. You can run 2 of them if you want the D4 to output stereo if want too.

Re: Which Practice Pad Is Best?

i've got one of those billy hyde 8" rubber ones, it cost me about 10$. I have seen practice pads retail for 80$, I can't understand why someone would drop that kind of coin on one.

Re: Super-simple drumming

funny

I know lots of different people who aren't snobby musicians who think that most modern rock is crap, including the white stripes, et al. They aren't even really music fans, then they go to a...

Re: Super-simple drumming

Meg White is now my role model. Screw practicing. I just gotta find a trendy band to play for, then everyone will say that my drumming is awesome and suits the music because the band is trendy and...

Re: In your opinion, what makes the difference between intermediate and advanced drum

advanced drummers pull things off consistently
intermediate drummers pull things off inconsistently

I'm an intermediate drummer imo. But I think it's fun that I have a higher mountain to climb...

Re: Calling all double bass players!

if you sit further back your legs are in a more comfortable position to go fast. If you sit so your knees are bent at 90 degrees you get tired faster and can hurt your knees possibly.

If you sit...

Re: Super-simple drumming

I just wanna say

I hate Meg White's drumming. If a 5 year old kid plays better than you, you don't deserve your fame.

Sure, simple is great and often is all that is called for. It just pisses...

Re: Calling all double bass players!

yeah I play in the middle of the pedal to the rear depending on how fast I'm going. When I go really fast I play heel down.

Re: Why does this drummer sit so far back?

Theres a few drummers that wear big heavy boots when they play, like

Hellhammer (Mayhem)
Pete Sandoval (Morbid Angel)
the drummer of Krisiun,

etc.

I don't get it either, but they are all...

Killers is solid all the way through
Iron maiden is a great album too, Phantom of the Opera? Fuggedaboutit!

I don't think it's Clive's fault that maiden's (harris') writing style matured and...

Re: Clive Vs Nicko

I like Clive Burr more than Nicko too. He played with more energy and really drove early maiden.
