Re: Tama SLP G-Bubinga Kits

I knew the day would come when people basically stopped using suspension mounts. I'll give it 5 years max before companies start advertising power toms and long lugs again. The drum industry has run...

Re: Thinking about double bass...

Do it. Despite what everyone says, doing runs of 16ths sounds badass when used sparingly. A double pedal will easily do the trick. I've got two kick drums and they look cool but are complete...

Re: Proportional tom sizes?

If you're going for ideally-equal sizes, Would drumhead thickness also effect this?

Re: Talk about a drumming revelation you've had

Swiss triplets made me finally realize how helpful rudiments are, which in turn made me understand tool's drumming a lot more. turns out most of his patterns are rudiments of some sort.

Re: Deep bass drums

I have two 20" deep bass drums on my kit and they're kinda silly. You really dont need drums that deep. It was 'fashionable' to have super deep kicks when I bought it (10 years ago) but now they just...

Re: How to trawl craigslist for deals

A lot of people are willing to do that, and will find that needle.

Seriously you just have to be on it all the time, and quick.

Re: Hi guys. I cant tune

Well they're pinstripes - you can put them on drums and barely tune them and they'll sound good - failing that you can go to youtube and find one of the thousands of videos on how to tune drums.

Re: Hi guys. I cant tune

This should be repeated. Drums in real life arent going to sound anything like recorded drums. It took me way too long to realise this.

But yeah if you want a good rock sound just buy some Remo...

Re: New kit time :)

A reference will do exactly what you're after.

As far as birch goes, its good for rack toms but personally I found birch kicks and floor toms lacking something.

Re: Turning Points?

One, by Metallica. I dont really like metallica but the double kick in that song blew my mind

Ticks and leeches by tool blew me away too.

And seeing Jojo mayer, Simon Philips and Terry Bozzio...

Re: New Drums from Mapex

Yeah but at the end of the day, they'll still basically sound like drums. It seems like a lot of effort and money to get some extremely diminished returns.

Re: Anyone Heard the New Tama SLP Kapur Or Studio Maple Kit?

Look up Alex Rudinger on youtube. I think he has the Kapur kit, and he is an absolute beast of a player.

Re: New Drums from Mapex

Does anyone really need that much resonance from a drum? Seems like overkill to me. Their currently soniclear mounts are great and look nice.

Re: Going from a USA Pork Pie to a USA Ludwig Maple classic - what to expect?

With the same heads, they'll sound basically the same. Most of the change you hear will be a placebo.

Re: Changing gears with my Drum inventory

I've found that buying new gear and kits is an easy way to avoid practising, and getting better. Next time you get the urge to buy something new, remove something from your kit and buy a book on a...

Re: Poor Mapex

It says a lot about people when they insult someone who can't defend themselves, especially when that person has talked openly about his struggles with mental illness.

Re: No Talent Hack, But Loving It....

Many, many books and research papers say you're wrong. I'd recommend reading Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell or Bounce! by Matthew Syed. The latter is a former world table tennis champ who got sick of...

Re: Ok Iím a fan of Mike Portnoy

Dream Theatre are shite and Mike seems a bit grating in interviews but you can't deny his playing is excellent.
