Re: worth it?

I couldn't agree with Andy more about this.
Honestly I remember when I thought the same way you do about the drums. I was 15 and wanted to play a Tama kit because Tim Alexander and Mike Portnoy...

Re: Musically, what are you involved with at the present?

1. How many bands are you in?
Four bands at the moment. My main band Tylor Dory Trio, A yet unnamed Primus tribute band, a local singer/song writer named Robyne Walters and a sub for my drum...

Re: worth it?

This thread is absolutely amazing to me. This is essentially just a blog for bmeat, seeing as they're not listening to anything anyone has to say, and posting updates to show how little they're...

Re: Is it just me?

The current trend definitely seems to be towards the thinner, trashier models that are being marketed as more "explosive". Their current prominence has less to do with the lathing and hammering...

Re: Rhythm Magazine/Music Radar review - Guru In-Tense english ash snares.

Hmm... That seems rather silly to me. An instrument's "rating" shouldn't be based on something that can be as wildly subjective as price. Just because drummer A can't afford a $1000 drum, that...

Re: The side snare

Every time I've set one up, it inevitably becomes used as a side table. Plus, I like placing my china cymbal low, and to the left of my hats, so it can get tricky to position everything comfortably....

Re: Support BENNY GREB's new DVD...

Just pledged some money! It's cool how you can essentially pre-order it to help make it. Definitely wish I had a few more Euros to throw around so I could buy his kit.

Re: Need a huge kick, is 60 inches enough?

It's funny to think how far up the beater would go (or wouldn't go) on a drum that size. lol

Tommy Lee, look out!

Re: Who was your first drum clinician?

My first clinic was Will Calhoun back in about 2006. He had the most amazing sounding kit, and spent most of the time talking about the time he spent in Africa learning indigenous music. I also...

That drum looks amazing, and I'm sure it sounds even better! I'm really diggin' the old school hoops. Incredible!

Re: SJC Maple/Acrylic hybrid drums

I just watched a few of your youtube videos, and I have to say that DW kit is stunning! I can't see that SJC hybrid kit sounding anywhere near as good; if I were you I'd save that amount of money for...

Tamahapex.

In all seriousness, why not use your last name!

Re: What's the best pedal technique study?

At the last clinic of his I was at, Jojo Mayer said he was working on a dvd similar to his last one but focused on feet. Should be quite interesting!

That's an interesting concept, applying those...

Re: Favorite Floor Tom

My Tama bubinga 16x14". Very versatile, very dark and punchy. I can't say enough about it! I'd love to hear what an 18" version would sound like!

Re: Post your Greatest Weakness

Yup, but in order to get noticed by them you need to have some skill...

Everyone has access to those so it's all in how you choose to utilize them in a unique way that gets you remembered.

Re: Post your Greatest Weakness

Marketing. What's the point of being a musician if you have nobody to share it with.

Re: Erroneously entitled: "Nobody Cares"

Is that not essentially the same thing? I've always felt that being a musician is a way of communicating emotion through sound.

But yes, I sincerely doubt most people in the audience care whether...

Re: Group snare porn ;)

Gorgeous work Andy! I love the contrast of the Cherry and Ovangkol!! Interesting decision to use S-Hoops! May I ask what prompted that? I don't imagine they're terribly in demand at the moment.

Re: Bass Drum Pillows or no pillows

Make that 2!

While I understand the "purist" point of veiw, the reality is for most live situations the sound tech doesn't have time to mess around with mic placement to find the perfect sound for...

Re: Lottery win - which kit?

I'd probably go for a Tama Starclassic Bubinga kit (same shells as my warlord kit, but replaceable if it gets damaged while gigging) with a 22x15" and 24x15" bass drums, 12x8" and 13x9" rack toms and...

Re: A tip for floor tom conversions to bass drums

I'm sorry I don't follow at all. By bass drum head do you mean a head that's slightly larger than the tom (such as an 18" head on a 16" drum), or a small sized bass drum head (like a powerstroke 3)....
