Re: What drummers have marched?

I. Marched through middle and high school. Got together with a D&B corp and marched with them for a few summers. Worst marching experience was in 7th grade when we had to use slings. I hate slings.

Re: Gretsch Renown - thinking about buying

Ahh, I rechecked the listing and its where the price of that kit should be. I think I got confused when the OP said it was $1300.

But there is a very nicely used Renown on eBay for $700 (Buy it...

Re: Gretsch Renown - thinking about buying

Cascio / Interstate Music is great. You should have no worries buying from them... However, that kit is overpriced considering these are the older models. You can probably find that exact same set...

Re: Trimmed down kits

4 toms is reasonable, but it certainly does not cover all generes of music. Some drummers like to have a full range from very high, to very low in their kit. That can require toms ranging all the...

Re: Real Ludwigs?

Thats a great price for classic maples. If they are the size you want and fit your playing style then go for it.

Re: What's your latest purchase?

Just bought up an Iron Cobra double pedal for half price. Brand New! The new 2013 model, original packaging, unopened box. I don't even like Iron Cobra pedals, but I couldn't pass up the deal.

Re: Really wanky behaviour....

Well, they changed your time slot, you declined to play. Their loss. Yeah, it sucks that you had people lined up to come and see you, but you stuck to your commitment of 8:50 and they didnt. In...

Re: When people ask you to 'play something', what do you play?

I usually play something from The Shaggs...

They never ask me to play again. :(

Re: Best Drum set for jazz?

The best jazz drum set I have ever heard was white. If I were playing jazz, I would get a white kit. They are the best.

Re: Microscopic damage! Grrr!

You should be able to buy new inserts and install them in the existing lugs. They arent too expensive. Probably much cheaper than buying a new bass drum. As for the cracked lugs, take count of the...

Re: Does anyone else hate splash cymbals?

I have 3 splashes (8, 10, and 12), I also have two stacked sets of cymbals and 2 chinas. This among the regular hi hat, ride and crashes. I like effects cymbal. No ozone crashes, but I do want to...

Re: Gong bass vs Bass "floor tom"

I was thinking single head as well. I just wasn't sure if the drum would sound like some crap ass bass drum from the early 70's where people took off all their reso heads to get a dead sounding kit,...

Re: Gong bass vs Bass "floor tom"

Well, I don't really need another floor tom sounding drum. I already have 8, 10, 12, 13, 14, 16, & 18" toms on this kit. But what I want to do it pull this kit out of the late 80's / early 90's and...

Gong bass vs Bass "floor tom"

Hey all. I had a question about converting one of my bass drums to a gong bass/floor tom bass. Basically, I want to hit it with a stick instead of a bass drum beater.

My question has to do with...

Re: What's with the rust?

I always see people selling clapped out, rusty Iron Cobras. It deters me from buying Tama pedals. You don,t see that with many other brands, especially for pedals that are not that old.

As for...

Re: Does this look like a good deal...

For that price, its a steal. I really like the 14" rack tom choice. Its 10" deep, so its not all "power tom" like the 80's, so it should have a broader tuning range. I also like the 14" depth on...

Re: John Good Interview

A steam bent, single ply, kit is much more temperamental than a ply kit. Steambent would make an amazing studio kit, but for gigging it will be much more work than a ply kit. Drummers aren't the...

Re: Cleaning drums

It works great. Just get some Meguires cleaner wax and rub it in like you are waxing your car. It removes small scratches/swirl marks out of the lacquer and leaves the whole kit super slippery and...

Re: Cleaning drums

I would not use an ammonia based product. Considering what ammonia can do to plastic (fog it up) I would not want that chemical on my drum set/kit.

Re: Cleaning drums

I use non-ammonia based window cleaner to clean everything shiny, ie. chrome lugs, hoops, hardware, wraps, and lacquer shells. If the drums are not slippery feeling after being cleaned, I will wax...
