Re: What's your latest purchase?

Bought a 12" Dream Bliss splash cymbal. I dont like splash cymbals, in general, too quick and trashy sounding, but this beauty sounds more like a small velvety crash. I was just browsing in my LDS...

Re: How to Make Drum Lessons more interesting

As for 1.D.? lets not confuse popularity with being on top of there game, remember, the Spice Girls were very...

Re: What's the Hardest Position to Fill in a Band?

Not at all. Even a quick look at musicians available sites in my area will flag up lots of drummers, guitars and bass, but no keys players and only a couple of wannabe Metal vocalists.

If we were...

Re: What's the Hardest Position to Fill in a Band?

Keys and vocals in my area. I mean any keys and any vocals. Loads of drummers, guitarists and bass players. Oh and horn players, they are thin on the ground.

Re: How to Make Drum Lessons more interesting

I think you just have to keep in mind that a 6 year old is very much a child and can be fickle regarding what entertains them. Dont expect commitment, If you get commitment then that is great.

Re: Better after time off?

It could be muscle memory kicking in. Also, with a lot of practice/training, there are two elements......overload, and recovery. During the recovery phase the body assimilates and absorbes the...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

I wasn't talking about the world, I was talking about trying to change stupid individuals. If a small thing were to realy upset me I would be giving in to it, and giving it credence, by the mere...

Re: How to Make Drum Lessons more interesting

Difficult, at that age attention spans are short and kids can jump from one passtime to another, and that is a good and healthy thing. All you can do is keep him interested and enjoying it. If it...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

Spot on. The older I get the more I realise that life realy is too short to sweat much about what others say, or think. Control the controlable, as my old athletics coach used to say.

Some...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

For the very reason I stated. A woman may not wish to be given a bed bath by a male nurse, so using the term gives the individual the choice, If the are that modest.

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

I dont see what is wrong with "Male nurse". Nurses tended to be female, by and large, until fairly recently. Also, some women might not wish to be tended to by a male nurse so making the...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

You could argue that even using the term "Female drummer" Is not PC. Surely its just drummer? But, again, If there were two drummers and you picked one out as your favorite player, and were asked...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

I know exactly what sexism is, and political parties having "Quotas" Is part of the problem, not the solution. It leaves the women chosen by the parties open to remarks regarding there...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

Missed my point entirely. I said if they "ran things the way they wanted". I would say most have had to become part of the male dominated political machine just to get on, and are kept on a tight...

Re: Who does this, really?

I can see your point but its not about keeping things museum perfect. I have one kit and it has to do everything. Its about preventing undue damage to a musical instrument so it keeps performing as...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

Men and Women are different, and It should be embraced. With the skills we have between us my other half and me make a great team.

Stating that men and women are the same is just plain stupid. ...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

Re: Why do listeners move on as they get older?

I don't think I have moved on, musically, I have moved outwards If anything.

I started listening to Rock and Roll/Pop in the 50s, then I was a big Blues fan in the mid 60s, moved on to Rock and...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

I dont know if being ignored in a shop is always down to a sexist assistant. I have been passed over before, when it was patently my turn, I said "Excuse me I think I am next" and that problem is...

Re: Possibly my first serious thread. Sexism.

Not being sexist myself I have no idea why anyone is a bigot. As far as I am concerned If someone is good enough, for anything, they are by default old enough, man/woman enough, big enough, etc for...
