Re: Very cool Ludwig video...

But... I was in there 3 times. Hmmm....

I'm sure the DVD is still available, a very cool watch with tons of memories and cool footage. I'm very proud to have been included in that, even though I...

Re: remembering a tune

Haven't had that happen, at least not lately. Once you've played or heard a song over a period of time, it becomes ingrained in your DNA. That's why we often clearly remember a song from our...

Re: Los Angeles drum shops

J.J. is kind of a joke among L.A. players. An interesting place to visit, but never with the expectation of finding or buying something you need. With all the orphan drums and hardware they have,...

Re: Los Angeles drum shops

Re Jammin Jersey:

I've heard that it's owned by some 'trust fund kids' and they don't really care if they sell anything or not. Apparently it's just fun for them, and their inventory seems to...

Re: Los Angeles drum shops

Oh yeah, forgot about them! A few interesting tibdits, not always in good shape, but always overpriced. Still, not as obscene as Jammin Jersey.

Re: Los Angeles drum shops

I vaguely recall the Drum Pad, but I do remember Valley Arts, North Hollywood Drum Shop, and Drum City (right around the corner from Pro Drum.) The '70/80s were the heyday of independent drum shops...

Re: Just an observation

I think everyone has a special place in their heart and upbringing for the music they grew up with, and generally regard it as the 'best'. Just as our big-band-era parents didn't like Elvis, or the...

Re: Los Angeles drum shops

Sam Ash split off their drum department and moved it into the corner space of the GC building across the street, definitely worth a visit.

I miss West Coast Drum as well, and Chad Sexton's Drum...

Re: Los Angeles drum shops

All the independent shops are gone except for Pro, however Lone Star opened recently in Fullerton. It's a cool shop, but none of the legacy or old parts or used gear that Pro has.

Sam Ash has an...

Re: What sticking do you use?

Same here, although it took a minute to figure out what the rhythm was. It's written kinda strangely, although it does add up to 4/4. :)

Re: Difference Between Ludwig Keystone & Keystone X ??

Same shell, and Classic lugs replaced the Epic/Keystone lug for a more unified look among the US-made lines.

Re: Namm 2019 rumors

I saw that Ludwig kit at GC, and yes, the cymbals are kinda useless. But the rest of the kit and hardware are decent-good, and even without the cymbals, it's a great value for a full-size, 5-pc kit....

Re: What's your favorite cover (maybe limit to 2-3 songs) that your band plays right now?

Also in my top-10 to play. I use a small Ludwig gold-tone cowbell, which is (almost) an E, and pitched just right for the song.

Re: What's your favorite cover (maybe limit to 2-3 songs) that your band plays right now?

Vertigo - U2
La Grange - ZZ Top
Dirty Water - Standells
Middle Of The Road - Pretenders

Could name a lot more, I like playing the hits!

Re: Going from a USA Pork Pie to a USA Ludwig Maple classic - what to expect?

They'll be pretty close. I had always considered Pork Pie my go-to boutique wood drum builder. It was a toss-up between them and Ludwig when I decided to change companies in 2006. Ludwig was my...

Re: What's actually going well for you in your world of music?

Wow, you have more gigs than I do! That said, I have a gig tonight opening for Dave Mason and Steve Cropper. :)

I feel privileged to have a long-term, enjoyable, profitable, and fairly enviable...

Re: The Speed Limit

Technique and practice certainly contribute to a drummer's speed, and I know I couldn't approach 1000 strokes without considerable emphasis on each.

Re: Drummer’s Place In Band

Each band member has a slightly different role. Some things are specific to the player, and there's some crossover between players, and some all-inclusive aspects to what the players contribute. Some...

Re: Anyone ever use the Porters and Davies stuff?

I experienced that early on with my set-up, and added more padding to the kick, and dialed-in the gate. It's fairly liberal with dynamics, but I rarely get a stray hit or rumble. I also prefer the...

Re: In case anyone hasn't seen this yet... Bermuda and Dom

Thanks! Not sure if we'll make it back in 2019, but we did enjoy playing across the UK in 2010 and again in 2015 - England, Scotland, Ireland and Northern Ireland. :)

Re: Anyone ever use the Porters and Davies stuff?

To be fair, I got my personal demo in 2013 at a venue near Denver, and I know that some improvements have been made since. I also like the saddle throne, which wasn't available at the time. :)
