Re: Hearing.

Low volume and only one earbud working would make me suspect faulty wiring or the plug not being fully inserted; maybe a bulky phone case or one with too small a hole for the headphone jack?

If...

Re: Cheap snare drum deal - help

I vote option A until you can afford enough hardware for both or find a real junker to steal hardware from. And worry about new heads first before buying any more parts or snares; most of the drum's...

Re: Yolanda's 3D holographic looking finish

Million-dollar idea: a two-piece 360° RIMS-style mount with a bearing track between the drum half and the clamp half plus a little electric motor.

SPINDRUMZ™

(The $1 million being the capital...

Re: How many HS drumlines still use mylar?

What if the head is half mylar, like the remo black max? That's what my school had on our sFzs.

Also I definitely saw other bands at festivals with mylar on their snares. Tiny bands from tiny...

Re: question for double bass players

When I'm just doing straight sixteenths, I feel like I can go a little faster and have more stamina than doing eighths on one foot (especially my left foot). I play my bass drum pretty hard, and when...

Re: Drum cleaning

Maybe try a soft cotton towel/rag and a microfiber cloth. Not sure what the smudgy lint might be. Filter gunk? Sawdust won't scrape your finish and lacquer is pretty durable.

Re: Adding a Tama tomtom to a Sonor Maple kit

Blasphemy. Mixing both brand and wood in a series of toms. You're going straight to drum hell (full of hack guitarists) for that one.

What heads/tuning are you using? It will probably sound fine;...

Re: The Best Drummer in the World

I know there's a million nerds out there always saying that this or that guy is the OMG b3s7 druxMMxer ev4r, but has anyone actually ever purported to be or laid claim to the title? Is there a kanye...

Re: Covering drums in fur

22" diameter; I made it out of two 22x14" shells. One was maybe a gretsch blackhawk. The other was old, thin-ish maple with no re-rings, had a rail tom mount bar thing, and somebody painted white...

Covering drums in fur

My first kit was a frankenstein's monster of three different crappy drum sets, and I wasn't in love with the red/white/black combination. Also all of the finishes were old and nasty (think peeling,...

Re: Wrapping a kit on the cheap

I wrapped 5 drums in faux fur (the thick, nice stuff) and I think I needed less than 3 yards of 60" width and it was less than $30. It was amazing. Hot girls were always asking to pet my drums. You...

Re: No more slave pedal please!

Even if you can't find your *exact* bass drum, you can probably find an old ludwig with the same construction and dimensions. Even if it's a different color, you could get a new wrap for it.

Also,...

Re: So I've never seen this written this way.

But...but...that would make it 12/8! Or 6/4?

Actually I think you could easily notate the ghost notes that way, but it might be misleading as to where the "beat" is. Maybe.

My Joe Bergamini...

Re: How do you count while olaying drums?

Counting out loud is handy for figuring out rhythms; in school band, we would count and sing parts aloud for sight-reading.

Downbeats are a number (1, 2, 3, etc.), eighths are "and" (written as...

Re: Recording drums with android phone?

The butt mic on your phone probably can't handle the SPL of a drumkit. In which case it's not a gain thing, it's a capsule x-max thing.

I've seen nice omnis that can plug in to an iphone; I'm sure...

Re: So I've never seen this written this way.

In school band we had many pieces with a triplet beat that were notated that way. That transcription is kinda pointless without the ghost notes, though.

Best video ever.

Re: Any "fun" grooves for practice pad?

My old drum teacher came up with this dirty little 7/8 thing that's kind of latin. It's fun on a pad and you can put it on cowbell/ride and snare (or whatever other combination makes you happy) on a...

Re: Equal Opportunity Hands?

- 75%. My left hand's got about all of the feel but just not the speed of the right. Laaazyyy.

- Matched grip 90% of the time. Advanced, maybe? I think I can "really play", possibly even with...

Re: Loud drums

I've got $1 on my crappy pdp 13x3.5 steel piccolo for being "loud".

Also I remember reading that the spacer snare was very noticeably and measurably louder than most snares.

Re: Fiber Glass shell or Acrylic shell

If you can see right through them, they're acrylic. I'm not super familiar with fibes and all the drums they've ever made, but I'm pretty sure that they've made regular wood drums too. IIRC they made...
