Re: Chad Smith Snare

Unlike Vegasdrummer, I really like Pearls sets but I'm not really a fan of this snare. If you can spend a little more (between $299-$319) at Massmusic you can look at Yamaha's Brass Snare, I just...

Re: Which is better?? Gretsch vs. Yamaha

Yeah as Unix said the Recording custom is an AMAZING set, but my personal favorite of the high end Yamahas is the Beech Custom.

Re: Black Beauty, Bruford Signature, or Tama Copper?

If you like Copper, I would definitely check out Pearls Free Floating copper shell snares, as good as it gets IMO and much cheaper than Roy Haynes(though that is a great snare).

Re: Unix goes all sparkle

My god that looks amazing, great job! I have to ask how much would a 4 piece set cost from you? I know it is likely out of my price range, but I would be looking at 18x22 Bass, 9x12 and 16x16 toms...

Re: new set time (2)

Honestly, if you have 4k to spend I still say get as many pieces of a Pearl Masterworks as you can and add on to it over time.

Re: Mapex Pro M or Tama Superstar Custom

Gotta go with the Superstar here. In my opinion it is every bit as good as the Pro-M despite being cheaper, and I don't really like the Mapex hardware as much as Tama. Going with the Superstar will...

Re: Best drumming album of all time?

I'm a little younger, so I gotta go with Carter Beauford on Dave Matthew's album Crash- like the band or not, he is amazing.

Re: new set time (2)

Well, with 4 grand to spend you might as well upgrade the Pearl Session to a Masterworks. My personal vote for this price range however would be a Yamaha Birch Custom with a Roy Haynes Copper...

Re: Mapex Saturn vs Sonor Force 3007

Depends on the setup you get for the Saturn, pre-configured Sonor 3007 usually run $1229 while the Saturn ranges from $1500-2300

Sonor Force 3007 vs Yamaha Tour Custom

Does anybody know how these sets compare in quality to each other? The Tour Custom is slightly more expensive (~170 dollars more) but I haven't seen too many reviews of them on the boards, though...

Re: PDP MXR vs Mapex M Birch/Pro M vs Tama Hyperdrive SL vs Sonor Force 3007

My recommendation out of all those choices would be the Sonor 3007. Another option to think about if you can spend a bit more would be the Yamaha Tour Custom, heard really good things about them.

Re: Your Favourite Snare

Your magnesium drums do sound great! Ever thought about giving copper a shot? I know it wouldn't be original, but it's the most underrated metal IMO.

Re: Why all the Vision bashing?

I totally agree, they are definitley good kits for the price, I still think they should really put 2.3mm hoops on, they aren't terribly expensive and other companies do it....Pearl just hasn't seem...

Re: Your Favourite Snare

Yep it's definitley a great snare, but sure as hell isn't cheap at $499 depending on where you get it from...that said I think it's worth every penny.

Re: Why all the Vision bashing?

I actually think Pearl did a good job with the Vision construction, but I think most people have a gripe with the 1.6mm hoops and the I.S.S mounts, where competitors like Tama and Yamaha give you...

Re: Your Favourite Snare

Hmmm, I'm not great at descriptions, but it's my favorite metal shell material of all I tried, it sounds similar to aluminum but is a bit warmer. Sorry, I'm not sure really how else to describe it...
