What's the worst kit you've had to play on?

Hi Drummerworld, long time no speak.

I suspect most of us have had to learn the hard way about using other people's kits. In the UK at least, it's fairly common practice to share a kit at a gig...

Re: I really need help with this song (I don't know where I'm suppose to post this)

Perhaps you're getting confused because this part is in 7/4? Try counting along to that section, 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 and repeat. Once you appreciate this it may make the rhythm easier to understand. Sounds...

Re: 22 x 22 kick and 12 x 6 tom question...

I use a 22 x 20 and 12 x 7 as my only rack tom (birch). Will the 12 x 6 be your only rack tom? I think it will be fine, but if you're used to using power toms or something it might sound odd to you....

Could I use a triangular bass drum port?

Hi guys, I know there have been plenty of threads on ports, discussing how the size and placement of the port (and also number of ports) affects sound and feel. However, I'm wondering if anyone has...

Re: Really underrated drummer (and band)

I agree, I prefer some of their lesser known album tracks. Elk (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uT303VlGRzw) is my favourite :') Although not much drums, I still jam to it to practice some odd meters...

Re: Your Playing area - why so poorly frequented?

I do try and go there, but I think I usually get distracted by the 'Your Gear' section... shiny. And when I do watch, I often forget to post. I foresee a rise in attention to this section, for now...

Re: Setting up side stage.

I agree, another band that does it is The Joy Formidable (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yplafBpVTNo). I think this layout works pretty well from a visual perspective, especially for a 3 piece band,...

Re: Triggers

That video will give you a good idea of what triggers are. To summarise, triggers replace the natural sounds of your drum with sampled sounds. Most often used in kick drums, most often in metal etc...

Re: Knowing your gear.

I dunno, I'd probably take about 20 minutes if I was allowed that long (yeah right!). It can take a while to get the double pedal on, get the snare on, get the cymbals on, after waiting for the...

Re: EXTREME Snare Drum Porn. 35 of them in one vid ;)

Sorry for the confusion Aaron, i think it's in the video description, it's says Benny Greb: Scandinavian Birch.

Re: Strangest/Weirdest/Funniest GigsYou've Played

Haha this thread is great.

One time my band and I played a gig so dead, even the bar staff had left. We arrived there (it was day long gig) and there was some guy and his girlfriend on the door....

Re: EXTREME Snare Drum Porn. 35 of them in one vid ;)

Haha ok. Only 16 to go :') On the plus side, only 15 till the Benny Greb. I was under the impression that this was beech too, rather than birch as you listed it? I could be wrong..

Re: So, the year is coming to an end, progress report...

Heel toe :) with my right foot anyway. It didn't take too long to get used to once I really focused on it, but I'm hoping I can get decent with my left foot heel toe by the end of next year haha....

Re: EXTREME Snare Drum Porn. 35 of them in one vid ;)

So jealous Aaron, I have 1 snare :)

Dear mother of god, please do the Artist Earth soon, I'm interested in thick shells and beech, so that fits pretty well! I've already seen it in that blast beat...

Tama Bubinga Select

Anyone seen these? I think they're new, not seen any discussion on them anyway. Popped up when I was browsing the UK Tama site, according to Tama they are hand painted lacquer finishes, available in...

Re: Long road trip practice ideas?

Whatever you're doing, perhaps tapping your hands softly on your legs will be better than hitting the dash for 18 hours. the driver would probably send the car of the road just to put himself out of...

Re: PolyNome: the drummer's metronome app

Well I did buy the app, but then remembered why I stopped buying apps... because I have a first gen iPod Touch that can't update to even iOS 4, so I can't actually use the app. Silly me. Hopefully...

Re: A dubba dubba update!

Have you ever considered a HHX Ozone Bo? Maybe it will suit you if your looking for that kind of china-esque sound without the brashness (not that they're easily ride-able!)

Re: PolyNome: the drummer's metronome app

Sounds good, I'm currently looking for a new one as the one I've had for ages isn't brilliant. One thing that really annoys me about it is the click sound, it's really harsh to the ears, and you...

Re: Is it bad to hit toms off-center?

I thought hitting any drum dead centre caused the head to not vibrate fully? And therefore not give the best sound? But seeing as no one else seemed to suggest this yet, I assume I'm wrong haha.

Re: How do you safeguard your gear in a rough pub?

I usually use a millwall brick (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Millwall_brick). Usually though, just staying near your kit will suffice. A band member should always be near the gear, rough pub or any...

Youtube doesn't throw out much though!

So, does deeper = louder?
