Re: Yamaha Phoenix potential purchase

I own a PHX kit and continue to be blown away by it every time I play it. It has a sound unique to itself and the rumours of absurd bass drums is well founded.

Regarding your concerns, the hook...

Re: 14x20 or 14x18 Recording Custom Bass Drum - Wanted

Me, too. They show themselves rarely and with the PB finish are sometimes pretty beat up. I decided to order both sizes in PHX. I know the lugs are different, but PHX bass drums are sublime.

Good...

Re: Peter Erskine is on the move... again

I believe DW bought LP. Meinl''s site does indicate what he is playing and it's not their cymbals. I guess the DW break-up was acrimonious.

Re: RUSH retirement rumor

If they retire, I'd wish them well. I discovered Rush at the age of 11 and have seen them every time though Toronto, Hamilton and sometimes Buffalo since. I've purchased each CD and live concert...

Re: That Erskine kit at NAMM

Yep, that's my understanding of the acronym. Always makes me chuckle.

Sometimes stores buy the kits right off the floor to resell. I was hoping that would be the case here.

Re: That Erskine kit at NAMM

Any idea if the NAMM kit made its way to a retailer for selling?

Re: That Erskine kit at NAMM

According to Tama website its a14 by 20. Seems right to me based on photos. Although I think it's a different drum in the video. That looks like a long 18.

Re: That Erskine kit at NAMM

Give Peter/Tama time. I see flat based stands in their future and they'll be the best ever.

You'll be proven correct once again. ;)

Re: Vintage stuff. Period.

You nailed it.

I had a very similar conversation with a local and well thought of drum repair person when he was drilling my Gretsch for a bass drum mount. He remarked at how great it was made...

Re: That Erskine kit at NAMM

Thank you for the pics.

That is a gorgeous kit, but...I wonder if I'd get sick of it after a while.

It's one thing to play a yellow kit as an endorser and another to drop $6 to 9 G's on a kit...

Re: Vinnie Colaiuta back with Yamaha?

I, too, would love to see Vinnie back at Yamaha, but there is nothing on that webpage that indicates he is. I had my wife translate it.

My bet is he's working with an artist there and using a...

Re: Gretsch USA 26" kick

I have a 14 x 26 USA Custom bass drum and it sounds great. I was worried, having played 22s all my life, that it would be uncontrollable, but it's not. It's great for when I want to really sink into...

Re: Know where i can find a 6.5 tama bell brass 40th?

I ordered one even before NAMM was done at Long & McQuade, Canada's largest instrument dealer, and have had the order cancelled. Apparently only one is coming to the Great White North!

Re: Yamaha Drums

All colours you mention are available as special order and are not custom. I have a solid black kit.

Re: Hiromi trio gig report. Simon Phillips, Anthony Jackson

I'm heading to the Toronto show this summer (if we get a summer) and I'm very much looking forward to it. Hiromi is amazing.

Glad you enjoyed the show and thank you for the pics and review.

Re: Yamaha Drums

Wow!!!

I have a PHX kit that didn't cost much more than that without the snare in the same sizes.

Increased margins!

Re: Yamaha PHX - am I missing something?

The PHX bass drum is obscene! I have a 16 x 22 and it sounds processed. When I set it up my wife, a musician herself, came downstairs to ask me what the heck I was doing.

Right now I'm...

Re: Vinnie Colaiuta Technique Question

There is Vinnie and then the rest of us!

I state this not that he is my all time fav, he's close, but that I'm reasonably certain he could play ANYTHING and improve it.

Re: Vinnie Colaiuta

I saw the Toronto show, which was great, and Vinnie was awesome!

Is it the angle, Vinnie sitting higher or is that a 20 inch kick? He looks tall.

Re: Drum Maker.com-Andy Foote-Consider Yourselves Warned

You have a limited window in which to do this and once closed you're out of luck. Three guesses as to how I know this and the first two don't count!
