Re: Ideal 2 Floor Tom Sizes?

You need sleishman floor toms, they're like a 3rd or a 4th lower than anything else I own. I've only got a 16 but ideally I'd get a 14 too and play these with every other kit I own, they're just...

Re: What's your latest purchase?

Wow, what's the axis hi-hat like?

I was drooling over them earlier this year but the price turned me off a bit.

Re: I Chickened Out

Not sure if you remember but I cut 4 inches off my 20x17 stage custom.

It looked cool, I could carry it with one finger and it sounded fine but it definitely lost a bit of power and it made...

Re: Should I keep the 24?

Oh, yeah I knew someone would say 24x14! but I'm not going to cut it down as I'm not confident that cutting down my last yamaha 20" made a positive difference.

Should I keep the 24?

I got a 24x18 recently and I bought it just because I wanted to try it.

I set it up just with a kick hats and snare and I didn't like that it plays a higher sort of note. Now I didn't experiment...

Re: would you buy a ludwig accent drum set...

I've owned a bunch of kits recently.. I guess it's not the same scenario but I sold off two cheaper ones and bought a tama birch/bubinga.

Reason? if you're going to have drums they might as well...

Re: Am I the ONLY guy that likes the sound of poplar drums?

I don't know why it sounded so good, but I had a ddrum poplar kit for a while and the kick was awesome... I kept the head from it when I sold it but I couldn't get the same sound from other bass...

Favourite hoops and why?

Inspired by that other thread.

What are your favourite hoops?

I love the mapex sonic savers.. they're rounded over, look great, really nice to hit and don't have that dead sound of die cast...

Re: Getting lazy and playing heel down

Thanks... sorry for the almost pointless thread, I don't know many drummers that I could ask, so it's nice to muse/get a little validation from you fellas.

I'm sitting at the computer after...

Re: Getting lazy and playing heel down

Bud - I remember Tim Waterson (that WFD double bass player from years ago) used to talk about developing the muscles on the front (shin) by playing heel down, so it won't hurt me by doing this for a...

Re: 20x16 triggered Kick drum

If you're triggering it and stuffing it with padding it doesn't really matter what size it is. A tighter playing surface is much easier to play on, I think triggers can deal with either.

Getting lazy and playing heel down

Lately I'm noticing that lifting my heels up to play the pedals feels like a chore so I play heel down.

It started with my hi-hat but now it's my kick pedal too. Obviously when I'm digging in I'll...

Re: Tama Birch/Bubinga Used

I paid nearly 1200 for a 5 pce (inc snare) but I'm in Australia where prices are a bit higher. The guy threw in brand new heads of my choice too.

I'd offer him 800 and accept any counter offer...

Re: Favorite throw off and why?

The trick but as far as stockers go I like the pearl 017 they put on the late sensitones, they just feel awesome to click on and off and feel solid too.

Re: Best drums under $1500?

Mapex made me a 16 a few months after my kit went out of production but I don't know what the go is with 18's or sizes not offered in she'll packs. I'd just go for the biggest shell pack I could get...

Re: Best drums under $1500?

I have an older Saturn 3, sizes are 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 20, 22, 14sn. I started with a fusion pack and bought add ons.

They have a unique sound and are competitively priced so no I don't think they...

Re: Best drums under $1500?

Mapex saturns all day.

I have saturns, a sleishman omega, a sonor s-class and a tama birch/bubinga and the saturns are my best kit.

Re: Favorite floor tom size and why?

Proof that sleishman floor toms rule.

I have this kit up for sale and someone may buy it this weekend, I wish I could justify keeping it for that...

Re: Sonor S Class Maple - need help

I wish I could confirm but I don't know... I thought the Chinese models had the TAR mounts on them, which are more modern looking than the mounting hardware we have on our s-class.

Your bass drum...

Re: Favorite floor tom size and why?

Depends on the kit really, some 14's are pretty great e.g my saturns, some aren't e.g my birch sonors.

The best floor tom I have ever owned is my Sleishman 16x14... it is about a 5th lower than my...

Re: Mapex bp nomad or dw collectors nob

For $600 Ludwig can't even put good hardware on the drum.

For half that you could get the supras little brother black magic, pork pie bob, ahead brass or just about anything and it will sound...

Re: Sonor S Class Maple - need help

I have a birch/maple German made one. $440 is cheap for that kit but it is an old kit so you will prob find flaws.

Just make sure the bass drum Spurs open and close properly, mine are a bit dodgy...
