Re: My new Yamaha Hybrid Maple.

That's surprising. I have never played them, but they seem to be a sure-fire build.

Re: My new Yamaha Hybrid Maple.

Me neither. They sound great, and I'm sure those lugs play a part in that, but man, I despise those types of lugs.

Re: Cymbal Brands

Paiste's 2002 line is nothing like their Signature line. Not sure what you're getting at there. Also, I've never broken a Paiste cymbal, in ANY of their lines, and I've used plenty. I did break...

Re: 8 lug snare drums. Thoughts?

10 lugs permit higher tension with ease, but 8 lugs will better retain tension without loosening. This is because there is more resistance per lug when there are fewer lugs. I had a 12 lug...

Make sure you bring your wallet and valuables on stage with you, where you can keep an eye on them.

Re: Trouble finding musicians

It gets harder and harder to find musicians who are capable, reliable and available. It was way easier 30 years ago. Back then musicians were willing to do the work and there were more of them with...

Re: Snare wire preferences?

I've tried the Canopus wires and didn't find them to be as special as purported. I prefer fewer strands, so I like these:

Re: Opinion poll

I love the look of the huge flake glitter, but I've been told that those wraps have to be quite thick, and it affects the sound of the drum in a bad way.

Re: Need some help choosing a snare.

Pitch bend? Unwanted overtones? You must have your snare drum's heads tensioned way looser than most people.

Re: Need some help choosing a snare.

I can make any snare drum that costs at least $300 new sound decent.

Tons of options in that price range. Consider what type of strainer you prefer as well as hoops, and then narrow it down...

Re: Finally! My First Final Phil Collins tribute kit

Playing open-handed, like Billy Cobham, would let you have the hi-hat as low as the snare, but I can't play like that. Phil has the snare between his legs and really, crazy low. He didn't even angle...

Re: Finally! My First Final Phil Collins tribute kit

The only problem with Phil's setup is the fact that you need to have the hi-hats setup very low in order for the concert toms to clear them. As a result, you need to have the snare setup very low...

Re: What drum(s) to add to my custom order

I think the only time you save a bit by buying a package is when it's a lower line. I know with Gretsch and Yamaha (at their higher end) the price is the same whether you buy "a la carte" or not.
