Re: Pork Pie Snares?

I may be wrong, but I believe that Pork Pie purchases their metal shells from World Max.

Not only do I like the two floors, but I even have another tom over there.

Re: I accept defeat.

I too have the same problem. Unfortunately, it seems to me (and I may be wrong here) that drums tuned to lower pitches do not "carry" across the din of a band. Drums that are tuned on the slightly...

Re: Walberg and Auge is back

To add some info on the 'new" W&A drums, and my apologies if you already know this, but they're made by Rob Kampa of Magstar fame. WorldMax USA is now owned by Rob and his wife Maggie - hence the...

Re: Post your youth pics here.

Okay, don't laugh....

This was me when I was 11 years old. This was a Kent kit (my first kit) and I had just brought it home - didn't even set it up (or wipe off the dust apparently), but wanted...

Re: castle drum co?

Good choice Bonzobilly! I always thought those two snares sounded great, but there was a certain mojo with the one you bought. Anthony and Susan are great people and I give them all of my business....

Re: castle drum co?

Bonzobilly, I played both of the Castle snares at the Village and they both sounded great! Are you leaning towards the 8" deep snare or the other one? I can't remember the depth of the shallow one...

Re: Tinnitus (ear ringing)

I too suffer from Tinnitus from years of loud music. I've been wearing ear protection within the last 6 or so years but the damage is done. I've lost a lot of the higher frequencies, especially in...

Re: Sonor-king of the micro kits?

While I don't personally own one, I routinely play a Sonor Jungle kit at a local open mic jam. The owner uses Evans G2 clears over G1 clears and it always sounds great playing it and out front as...

Re: New drum kit! Woohoo 28" Ludwig kick. Need some help...

I play a 14x28 and a 16x26 and I can say from my own experience that I get the best sound (to my ears) with a PS3 batter and a fiberskyn reso or a Ludwig heavy reso. Batter is tuned just a little...

Re: Applications for 13" tom

Get creative with the 13" tom. I put mine next to my floor toms. I tune them so they complement each other (typically a major third apart).

Re: 28" vs. 26" Kicks, Help!

I might of missed it, but you never mentioned whether or not you plan on porting the reso on your new kick. This obviously will have a huge effect on your tone as well. 16x28 is a LOT of air to...

Re: Naked shell porn - Old school finishing.

Hands down, those are the most beautiful shells I've ever had the pleasure to look at! Wow, just incredible. Somebody is going to enjoy this kit!

Re: What's the oldest drum gear you own?

I have a 1938 14x28 Ludwig & Ludwig bass drum followed closely by a 1941 Ludwig & Ludwig snare drum. Both are WMP.

Re: Tuning help for 18" floor tom...

I agree with Bull when he says that larger toms seem to sound better with the reso tighter than the batter. I have a Ludwig 6 ply kit that the floor tom sizes are 18 and 20! If the reso isn't tight...

Re: Vintage Ludwig & Ludwig drums

As promised, here are some pictures of the 1941 snare I picked up over the weekend to go with the bass drum. It's in excellent shape. Sorry for the less than quality pictures - I used my phone. Now...

Re: Vintage Ludwig & Ludwig drums

Here are some pictures of the bass drum. It's 14x28 and has long Imperial lugs. As far as completing the kit, I will pick up decent pieces as I come across them - as long as they're from the same...

Vintage Ludwig & Ludwig drums

I recently purchased a 1938 Ludwig & Ludwig kick drum, 14x28, totally virgin and has a beautifully yellowed WMP wrap that is very tight. For those of you who like pictures, I will post some once I...

Re: Do drummers lose points for disassembling the moment the show is done?

I too start to break down my gear right away after the last song. Why? I have the most components to break down out of anyone else in the band. It is a common courtesy if a band is following you (or...

Any tips on micing non-ported kick?

Just like the title says - I'm looking for input on how you might mic a non-ported kick. I've always had ported kicks until recently and I'm not too sure on what technique will yield satisfactory...

Re: # of gigs in 2013?

I had 96 paid gigs last year. We only take off two weekend nights per month plus the occasional event gig.

Re: The disconnect between musicians perspectives and audience perspective

I have two thoughts on this. First off, I am not a fan of other musicians coming up to sit in during one of my bands gigs. I could care less if they were the second coming of Bonzo. When I get...
