Re: Are you sick of the term "POCKET DRUMMER"?

Yeah exactly. It means you're nailing the music. Your tempo is on, your grooves that you're playing are on, and it sounds awesome.

Isn't Josh Freese the drummer for A Perfect Circle?

Re: Church gigs?

Lord I Lift Your Name and Shine Jesus Shine are both from the 80's/90's. I think we're talking about stuff that has come out in the last 10 years or so. I am at least. I welcome you to listen to...

Re: Church gigs?

Compared to other non-music forums I post in and read, what went on in this thread is tame. This is easily the most ultra-polite internet forum I have ever seen lol.

Re: Church gigs?

So you're saying that musicians that volunteer only do so because they're doing it because they feel obligated or out of some sense of guilt? I feel I do it because it's my calling and where God has...

Re: Tendinitis - Three weeks with no right hand

Wait.....Ted Reed wrote a book on bass drums as well??? Wow, I had no idea. I've been using his Syncopation book all this time to help my bass drum technique. Is his bass drum book any good?

Re: Church gigs?

That is not entirely true. People come for the worship music as well. A healthy church will at the very least try to put a strong emphasis on both the music and the Word. I do agree with you that...

Re: Church gigs?

Tarred and feathered lol? If you're being serious, that's a little extreme, don't you think? I'm curious to hear why you think that.

But yeah, sometimes I do get frustrated with the volunteer...

Re: Church gigs?

Yeah, that's pretty much how I look at it. I've spent about 5 1/2 years playing at churches. I look at this as part of my musical education until I get that opportunity to start getting paid to...

Re: Church gigs?

Gospel music is a whole other animal from the stuff I listed above. To me, gospel music is the only legit style of modern Christian music today. The musicianship is usually quite a bit higher. ...

Re: Church gigs?

At the churches I have played at, yes you do have to be "member" of the congregation, meaning you come to services regularly at the very least. It helps if other people at the church know you as...

Re: Church gigs?

It really depends on the church. If it's an evangelical church, there are artists and bands out there that most here probably have never heard of that are a really big deal in Christian worship...

Re: Pomdemski's snare method!

That's true, Podemski's book is more of a reading book. I originally bought it as an alternative to Stick Control, but I found myself doing a lot of reading in the later exercises. And then I...

Re: Things others drummers do that annoy you?

Drummers who wear gloves. I don't know why, but it has always bugged me. TAPE UP YOUR HANDS YOU WUSSY! :oP

Actually, a couple drummers I really admire, Dave Grohl and Vinnie Paul, wear gloves. ...

Re: Pomdemski's snare method!

I own it. It's a good book, but not on the level of Stone's books though.

Re: someone says you suck at drums, what do u do?

If someone said that to me, I would probably start laughing cuz it's such an obviously cocky thing to say to someone. I don't think I would take offense. And also because I know that I don't suck...

Re: Joey Jordison named best drummer of past 25 years

Good for Joey. He's an awesome drummer, no doubt about it. What I wanted to say about Travis Barker and Joey Jordison and their popularity though, is that a lot of it has to do with the bands they...

Re: Stick Control Book - Applicable to Feet?

@Tim Waterson

Haha, I knew after I posted that someone would post some crazy solo. That was good. I guess it depends more on the drum head and the bounce you get off it. One thing I've learned...

Re: Stick Control Book - Applicable to Feet?

Yes it is applicable to your feet, although not all of it I don't think. Maybe some crazy drummer out there has figured out a way to do buzz rolls with his feet, but it's not something I've tried.

Re: Danny Carey vs Neil Peart

A comparison of two of my favorite drummers of all time? I can't resist!

I have to go with Neal Peart. He's been around longer and it's really hard to put any drummer in a rock band above him....

Re: 4-Way Coordination

I own the book and played out of it a lot....until I discovered Ted Reed's Syncopation book. Reed's book has helped me way more in my independence. I haven't opened 4-Way Coordination in months. ...

Re: Virtuoso Drummers?

larryace- Very good post. I'm in total agreement with you. I think there's too much of an emphasis placed on the drum solo with drummers. Solos are cool and I'm not saying drummers shouldn't do...
