Re: Anyone using GAUGER RIMS?

they DO make a difference. i'm not a fan of rims mounts, due to all of the bounce you get. so, i'm looking in to the pearl mounts. they look more sturdy. not sure if they'll cut more tone from...

Re: 1-up 2-down? How about 1-up 4-down?

i'm putting together a rogers kit and am planning on setting it up 13 in the center on a snare stand, 15 left of my hat, 16 and 20 down. 24 kick. (the 20 is really a BD, but i'm puttin' FT legs on...

Re: Help : Warped snare drum

i had a BD out by about an inch. i bought 2 lengths of all-thread and put them through the lug holes of the "wide" part of the oval. then, i took washers and wingnuts and slowly tightened,...

Re: HELP - my 14" tom mount is killing the sound

i've got the same problem, but with the snare stand mount. i don't clamp it down tight or anything. i was planning on moving to those pearl mounts. i tried the rims mounts, but i don't like the...

Re: Why go vintage?

i'm going vintage for kind of a different reason. cost.

when i was searching for a custom kit, i was becoming depressed with the high prices i was encountering. sometimes $2000 for a bass...

Re: "Trapped" in the Groove

this made me think... listen to what they're playing. they may not be playing too much, but you need to find your spot to fill. most good drummers say you need to open your ears and listen. you...

Re: Pearl Q-Popper Snare

i actually play a premier 12x7 as a main snare, and i can tell you, it does really cut. i usually run a cs reverse dot on it when i'm running it tight, but lately i'm using a vintage a, tuned...

Re: Snare sizes for different genres

yeah, i wouldn't get caught up in the "different snare for each type of music" thing. get to know your snare/s one at a time. you'll be amazed the different sounds you can get with different...

Re: gretsch new classic help!

honestly, try it first. anytime i've put a tom on a snare stand, it has sucked the life outta it. dead, flat, dead.

Re: My Supraphonic 6.5 x 14 sounds less than magical

general rule of thumb is: more snare wires = less drum tone. less wires = more drum tone. on a shallower drum, i'd go with more wires, more sensitivity. not much tone to be had there, anyway. ...

vintage drum out of round

i have a rogers drum, 20" bass drum that's about 1" out of round. it only seems to be out at one lug. i measured at each lug, top and bottom, and this is what i found.

now, i planned on...

Re: Peavey Radials

yeah, i've read that the 1000's are the ones to look for. but i still don't see how the rings are attached. are they part of the shell?

Re: 17" tom???

nah, it had to be some moron mis-measuring. nothing i have ever seen with rogers has ever shown them making a 17. in fact, i can't find evidence of ANY company making a 17.

Peavey Radials

anybody ever hear these? how do the "lug rings" attach to the shells? i don't see how the shells resonate better than lugs if the rings are just glued to the shell around the edge like they appear...

Re: 4 Piece Configuration Question

i agree w/caddy. i'm "growing" a set that will be 13, 16, 24. never liked 12's much. 16 isn't my fav, but i figure i could always go 18 when i have the $$. plus, i just picked up a marching...

Re: Used Drums

not sure if this is "on the money," but i was told buy a luthier that woods, when vibrated, will vibrate more freely with age. so, a vintage guitar (or drum, i figure,) will sustain differently than...
