Re: Real Life Whiplash

The nightmare may not be over. The guy might mail you a bill for medial services he needed from your "faulty" drum sticks that injured his hand. Stranger things have happened. Just remember no good...

Re: Have You Heard of Brady Drums?

I have a friend who sold a business and took his profits and decided to become a drummer. Bought about twenty top of the line snares, and drum kits from about every maker. I went over for a visit and...

Re: ?uestlove's new Tonight Show Kit

Looks like 12 and 14 in toms and 20X14 kick? Or is that kick bigger 22X14? It's a beauty for sure.

Re: Real Life Whiplash

Dang pounded the kit so hard it drew blood from the drum-I've never seen that. Did he use it to stake a Vampire or something-that's really freaky. Broken or chewed up stick is the worse I've seen....

Re: Hi-Hats: Tight or loose????

"Drawback is this usually makes it easier for the bottom nut to unthread itself while playing. Anyone have easy tips (aside from Loctite) to prevent that?" I have the same problem I like mine loose...

Re: 40th Anniversary of Physical Graffiti - How Cool Is This?

I was 20 when it came out and I loved all their earlier albums-just fantastic. But when Physical Graffiti came out I was disappointed to be honest. But there was lots of other music competing too....

Re: Over exuberance - a time & a place?

That is one over exuberant drum kit-I suggest you tone it down. Maybe spray paint it grey. The audience seems pretty exuberant too-so I guess you fit right in. Awesome dude looks like your having...

Re: Fantastic Peter Erskine video

Man that is an awesome video-I had no idea he started so young too. His eagerness to learn from others (but then too create his own)and then pass it on as an educator himself is great. His emphasis...

Re: Pork Pie Snares?

The screw is thicker up top and your brain amplifies that into an optical illusion of greater splay-though there maybe a small amount. Take a card and line it up and you see the top thickness stick...

Re: Post your Greatest Weakness

That's easy-I haven't developed a "drum solo" that uses ALL 40 Vic Firth rudiments in some fashion. LOL. That might make a cool drum contest?
Seriously I have too many to have just one that is...

Re: Mike Clark Interview, The Trap Set

I love that "funky" jazz style of Clark. I note he really keeps his drum stick height short-something I've always done. I've noted so many drummers with really dynamic and large stick heights it is...

Re: Mike Clark Interview, The Trap Set

Cool talk about a "collective conscious" I was just watching a bunch of Mike Clark videos and interviews. I love the one he talks about Tony Williams asking him to come over and play for him. He said...

Re: For those who play at church or not.

I played drums (we had a number of drummers and take turns) in church of about 1,500 for about 8-10 years. It was an open environment with no plastic blocks and a good size orchestra and large choir....

Re: Lady Gaga on the Oscars.

Besides being so incredibly talented and attractive Lady Gaga has the strength to hold all three fellas on her right side too. That's amazing. Boy dynamite really does come in small packages.

Re: Lady Gaga on the Oscars.

I didn't watch the Oscars-my bad. Lady Gaga is really talented but Julie Andrews OMG the lady is still a beauty and class act-if she only had her original voice I'd like to hear that again. I've been...

Re: Whiplash Oscar win - will it spur sudden interest in "jazz drumming"?

I predict auto sales will go out the roof. Then a sudden rash of wrecks and reported cases of "Whiplash". Chiropractors will benefit greatly and the butterfly effect will ripple through the planet...

Re: Whiplash Oscar win - will it spur sudden interest in "jazz drumming"?

"I think drumming, or even the teacher, was just a vehicle." Vehicle-that makes sense-must of had a bad wreck and developed a bad case of "Whiplash".

Re: Whiplash Oscar win - will it spur sudden interest in "jazz drumming"?

I have an elder brother who use to throw drum sticks at me-broke one on my head. Yeah I know explains a lot LOL. He use to tie me to an electric fence too. So he would make a hell of drum...

Re: Double Bass Drum Futility

I feel the pain. I like the Tama Iron Cobra but get frustrated and just take off the other beater and pedal and play it as a single. I'll get all motivated and bold and try again and put it on but...

Re: Little experiment I did

"Lar's ULtip" you made a punny. Drummers are always experimenting-adding paper or foil to heads, modifying cymbals, etc. I love brushes but really prefer a stick on cymbals so first I crimped fishing...

Re: Adults Learning Drums

Well you have to want to be an "adult" learner. I started at 10 in the mid 60's so rode the garage band era of self taught 'musicians' then quit from about 76-86, then got a cheap Pearl forum kit and...

Re: Adults Learning Drums

We are all life-long learners. i learned that from my "extended stint" in college-started in 1973 and finished in 1992. What I "learned" is I have to "master" a subject or task and I can do so on my...

Re: Sorry - this just had to be posted!

Thanks Andy great info-especially about the inside shell (I've always wondered why Gretsch uses the silver paint and some seal their drums with teak oil then other really rough or sanded smooth). I...

Re: Sorry - this just had to be posted!

That's a beautiful snare. Do you seal the inside wood or is it sanded to a smooth finish? Is there a recording of this snare on the Guru site? I also note most of these stave snares are pretty deep...

Re: The dream vs. reality.

Dang Andy that is some garb. When I was a researcher I used a lot of radioactive tracers and wore a similar outfit just no respirator. Hot as hell and about the time you are all geared up you need to...
