Re: How sentimental are you about your drums?

I just returned to this thread after playing two of my vintage kits for the past few hours. I can relate to the fact that some of you think of your drums as just objects. What I don't understand is...

Re: Just Bought a late 60's Luddy Kit

Thanks Lar;
BADGES,,, I DON'TCARE ABOUT STINKIN BADGES!!!
Let It go Larry. The 12" B&O tom is a 69. The other drums are 68 and the 14" FT is a 66. These drums fit together perfectly sound-wise, so...

Re: Just Bought a late 60's Luddy Kit

I got creative today and I came up with a new setup for the Lud's.
I figured a way to mount my mini timbales on the stand that holds the high toms and the crash and splash cymbals. I'm liking the...

Re: How sentimental are you about your drums?

A few years ago I began collecting vintage kits that I had decided that I wanted to own.
I selected these 3 kits;
Early 50's Gretsch Broadkaster 3 ply in WMP with matching snare.
65 Slingerland...

Re: Blues Drum Kit

As far as I know from reading about the era, most of the studio's had their own drums back then.

Re: Just in case you forgot

I can't believe that you could even think of playing a Pearl kit after playing that kit!

Re: Toms wont stay tunned

From the Tightscrew site.
FAQ
Will TightScrews fit my drums?
TightScrews will fit most American and Japanese drums. TightScrews will fit pre-1995 DW drums with 12-24 threads, and DW and Pacific...

Re: Toms wont stay tunned

There is a special tension rod for this problem called Tightscrew.
Order the correct length for your drums. Measure from under the head where the washer goes to the end of the screw for correct...

Re: Autumn beauty!

That kit is stunning Andy. The color is really nice. Just the right shade to enhance the wood.

Re: New Gretsch 3 ply Broadkaster line

On my vintage Slingerland kit I installed a dw rail consolette mount on the bass drum and I combined it with a New Ludwig Atlas mount on the tom. On my 50's Gretsch 3 ply I installed an Atlas Arch...

Re: Old timey drums from Sears

I believe that Star and Pearl made drums for Sears in the 60's. I don't think that Gretsch, Ludwig, Slingerland ever made drums for Sears. I don't remember seeing any when I was growing up.
Sears...

Re: Tuning Toms??

If you ask 100 drummers how to tune drums you will get 100 different answers.

Most of us are using a clear 10 mil bottom head and a thicker batter head on our floor toms.
If you tune this head...

Re: Tips for easy loading - my car my way

It is easy to overlook the fact that an object that weighs just a few pounds can be lethal when projected during a crash.
The reason why I lay my drums on their sides behind the front seats is so...

Re: Tips for easy loading - my car my way

It may seem trivial to many people but balancing a load in a vehicle is important.
In bad weather, or in a situation where you have to make an evasive maneuver a secure balanced load can be a...

Re: Tips for easy loading - my car my way

I pretty much do the same as you.
I use a Hyundai Elantra wagon and I fold the rear seats down. I use soft bags that won't destroy the interior of my car. Soft bags also keep the snare from...

Re: Cymbal/Tom stand stabilization

Like Bo said, some pictures would help us determine the problem.
I prefer to use a heavy duty stand when I am hanging a tom. I use combination tom/cymbal stands that are designed to hold toms and...

Re: Mapex Saturn vs Premier Genista

I have never played a Genista but I can vouch for the quality of the earlier Saturn drums.
They are well crafted and they sound awesome. They have a full tuning range. I will also give you a heads...

Re: New Kit DW Performance

I am a long time fan of the PS3. Those heads can do anything that you ask of them.
I use both coated and clear types as batters.

Re: Where have all the Bop Kit threads gone?

My early 50's Gretsch Broadkaster kit in 22, 13, 16 sizes was considered to be a Bop Kit in its day.
It is listed in the catalogue from the era as the BroadKaster Bop Kit.
I know where you can buy...
