Re: what is in your bag of tricks?

I sometimes like to make my cymbals screech. I'll mute my ride with my left hand and with my right i'll flip the stick and dig the tip into the cymbal. I drag across the grooves and it makes a...

Re: whats the difference between press roll and buzz roll?

A press roll would be used more in marching snare right? When you dig real hard on a falam head? I wouldn't press too hard on a regular head in fear of ruining it.

Re: Planning my next kit, looking for feedback

I would skip on the hydaulic heads. They make drums sound like cardboard boxes! If you want something with a little more control that will still provide good tone, I would grab the EC2's. I use those...

Re: Band business and strategy

This is a great thread! My band was having a meeting after our last practice and we decided that our next big effort was going to be to put together a split release with two of our friend bands in...

Re: anyone use ear protection whilst playing

I have a student who visited his audiologist and got himself a pair of custom ear plugs. He says they are super comfortable and he sometimes forgets that they are in. They have different inserts for...

Re: Ginger Baker at the Jazz Cafe

Wow! That's really too bad! I'm a huge fan of Ginger and I feel he has had a signifigant influence on my playing. It's a shame that a legend of his caliber would consider booking a show when he was...

Re: Gretsch New Classic vs Pearl Reference

If I had to choose between the two I would deffinitely choose the reference kit! Each shell is a hybrid of woods except for the 12in is all maple. But under 2700 you might only be able to get a used...

Re: Playing double kick feels extremely awqward

I would deffinitely say that my set up has a bit to do with my double bass playing. Seat position and height in particular. If i'm not seated correctly my legs just don't work as quickly.

Re: Deciding on a new Brass Snare?

I really enjoy my Gretsch Hand Hammered Brass Snare. It's a 5x14 but they are available in the 6.5x14 for about 20 or 30 bux more. It's a great pro drum in your price range. You can find it at GC or...

Re: YouTube will destroy drumming!

I have a student guilty of this. He loves to post his takes at Dragon Force songs. They are far from the work of David Macintosh but he is deffinitely proud of them. I suppose his ears aren't...

Re: Thomas Pridgen

Yea man, I was there too. His playing was really enjoyable for me, but I think his performance was a bit ruined by his public speaking skills. I'm sure he was nervous as ever though!

Re: New Breed II?

What kind of stuff is in the first New Breed? I'm looking for a book to increase my left foot independence so I can incorporate more polyrhythms.
