Re: The Ludwig Acrolite

The condition is always an issue with any drum, but other than that, I can't think of any Acrolites that are inferior to others.

Re: Karl Crafton, good guy

I just saw this. I should add that Karl is always helpful and a great source of information. If I am ever in Detroit, I'll have to check out his band and see those Ludwigs.

Re: RIP John Bonham

When I heard the news, I was at a local public radio station where a friend of mine hosted a reggae show. I actually saw the story come out of the old teletype machine at the station. If I had been...

Re: The Ludwig Acrolite

That's a nice find. It's cool that you can start your daughter out on that drum. She will appreciate the history as well as the sound.

Re: Dog Ownership and Drumming

I don't know if you could install a dog run, but if you can, it's another option. I have 3 dogs and only one of them really hates the drums. The others don't seem to care, and their hearing is fine...

Re: Why are we addicted to vintage drums?

I recently restored a Ludwig Supraphonic that was made one day after my 11th birthday, which was just after the Cubs' last World Series Championship. (Just kidding, I'm not QUITE that old). The...

Re: Does your family understand?

Hi Magenta, how are the Pearls working out? My parents were pretty understanding. They arranged for me to get private lessons from a really nice retired gentleman (that I will never forget). Then...

Re: Do you gig vintage gear?

I've played the '71 Supraphonic I rebuilt and my '79 Acrolite at a few gigs already and I've only had them about 6 months.

Re: Ridiculously oversized kits

I don't want my kit to get much bigger, but after reading this thread, I must add at least one lava lamp.

Re: Drum Finishes - A Natural Debate - Part Deux

I got the SBP on my Classic Maples and it is cool. My wife picked it out instantly when we ordered the drums. It kind of glows under stage lights.

It will look great with metal hoops too. It's a really pretty drum and you got it for a great price! Congratulations!

Re: eBay Drum Question

I just won one of those UFO cases for my Acrolite and my Supraphonic. It's pretty cool. Ebay is OK if you don't get too carried away with bidding wars. Paypal is handy too, I needed to get some...

Re: Show report/pictures - a very British event.

Those are cool pictures, Andy. Great stuff, and of course, the Guru looks fantastic. It also looks like a lot of work! I hope there's a bar and a hot tub somewhere in the building.

Re: Maybe at that, the cost of the gear doesn't matter.

I have on old Sonor Force 2000 that I will never get rid of. I played literally hundreds of gigs with it and it sounds great. I can't deny that there are cheap kits that have problems with shells...

Re: Pearls of Wisdom from Dave Grohl

Thanks for pointing this out. For a church thing, I recently had to learn a Foo Fighters song note-for-note. It was completely obvious that it was spliced together. The tempos weren't even matched...
