Re: Tuning/Muffling tips for ACRYLIC shells...HELP!

I would say that the "clear heads only on acrylic drums" thing is purely esthetic. If the Ec2's get you "your sound" fine. If not, use what you need to get it.
My go to for big, boomy bas drum...

Re: Phil Rudd

To understand what Phil Rudd adds to AC/DC it is only necessary to listen to the AC/DC "live" album with Chris Slade drumming. Everything, to my ear, is subtly "wrong."

It sounds like a good AC/DC...

Re: Single headed toms

So, inquiring minds want to know:

What new heads/new technology would you recommend these days?

Back in the day it was pinstripes, and it looks like that's what you've got on most of those...

10 x 16 tom?

Hi, all!

I'm thinking about adding a 16" tom in a "mounted/rack" position to my kit. I've been seeing quite a few older "field drums" with 16" heads, but 10" depth for reasonable (cheap!) prices. ...

Re: Plugging holes on shells?

I used to restore furniture with veneers, so that might be something I could tackle. Never tried it on anything quit this big and round, usually like flat desk/tabletops, and small edge pieces. I...

Plugging holes on shells?

So.....
I basically fell into this older, 6 ply ludwig maple kit. The white wrap finish on it when I got it was cracked, dented dinged, ugly. I figured I'd strip it and re-wrap it, but when I got...

Re: For a 5 pc what do you prefer?

14",16", 18"!!! Nothing else sounds quite like an 18" floor tom.

Re: Musicgoround.... has anyone here dealt with them?

I always hit the MGR in Albuquerque first. great stuff at great prices, and unlike many "music" stores, at least here in Albuquerque, they're all working musicians who know the gear.

Re: Ever have that "I'm the best" thought?

Robert Plant is rumored to have said, "John Bonham is the greatest drummer in the world. I know because he told me so!"

Re: Snare Tuning issue

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but....did you replace the old head with exactly the same, new head? Are you tuning it to exactly the same tension? I assume the answer to all these is yes, but...

Re: Can I mount my floor tom upside down????

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong here, but, with very few exceptions, the only difference between the top and bottom of a drum, soundwise, is what head you've got on it. Most of us use a...

Re: Vintage drums

Looks like a supra to me. It is not a supersensitive, unless someone changed the strainer. If you have the money, BUY IT!

Re: Vintage drums

Vintage Ludwig I defer to others with more knowledge. Crown, I know. My first kit in the early 70's was a Crown. They were crap, but let me bang away, learn a few beats, and learn what I didn't want...

Re: Smaller sizes, but better drums?

Thanks, guys. I'm soooo happy with this kit. Elvis, I too think Ludwig/Paiste is therock combo. I'm keeping my eyes peeled for a nice deep supra or similar, but my Metalworks will fill the gap 'til...

Re: Smaller sizes, but better drums?

OK, Just for closure's sake, this is what I brought home yesterday to replace my big Rockstars:
'68, 3-ply, re-ring, clear interior. 22,12,16.
No regrets, no buyer's (or seller's) remorse.
The...

Re: Smaller sizes, but better drums?

That is possibly the most valuable piece of drumming advice I have received in 35+ years of playing! (Now if I can only find the courage to follow it!)

Re: Smaller sizes, but better drums?

Thanks for the replies so far, keep 'em coming!
Price difference will be ~ $400.
I had thought about the value end of things, but I'm a player, not a collector, so the sound is really the thing....

Smaller sizes, but better drums?

Opinions, please.... I am currently playing a Japanese Tama Rockstar kit, 24" kick, 14" rack, 18" floor. I love the "big" sound I get from these, and the classic/blues rock band I play with does,...

Re: Begginer, what should i start with?

This may seem like heresy to many here, but the way I began, and the way I recommend to anyone just starting, is: Lock yourself in your practice space with a couple of LP's (Ooops,I'm showing my age)...

Where are Taye drums made?

OK, I've almost convinced myself to buy a Pro-x kit, but the curiosity remains, where do they make their shells, etc? I've searched here, and Taye's website, and they say they"make their own shells",...

Re: What profesional drummer's setup do u admire most?

In 1984, I wanted to be Alex VanHalen. I Love that kit with the 4 bass drums, roto-toms, etc, etc.

Re: Whats your Favorite fill from a song!?

I always liked the opening fill to ELP's "The Sherriff". Carl Palmer plays it, then halfway through, goes, "S*&%" and starts over again. When I was 15, it sounded like magic. It's still pretty cool.

Re: Best Compliment Ever Received

I was 15, playing in an all originals band with a keyboard player who thought he was Keith Emerson, A bass player who thought he was Klaus Voorman, (OK, and I thought I was Carl Palmer). We were just...
