Pad and technique work is great, but you need to spend time with your hands on and around the actual kit. I like the 20/80 idea suggested above. Good technique and speed are only as good as you can...

I took a private lesson with Bernard Purdie awhile back, and he said I should play heel down almost exclusively because the majority of tempos didn't require heel-up and to help maintain my balance...

Really i'm just trying to build up my endurance that way. Riley talks about speed in Art Of Bop being playing fast but being able to maintain it as well. So maybe it's over kill, but i do feel more...

Will experiment with that. Honestly I only want to be able to play cleanly at 92ish, as to play along with "Kissing My Love". Don't care about anything faster than that, but 86-87 right now is...

Looks really cool! Like a Levon Helm kit. My first kit was a free Pearl Export, and I still use it to pracitce everyday! I do have 2 other kits I use on gigs depending on the vibe (rock, jazz, etc)...

Yea a guy at my local store (Drum's Etc in Lancaster, PA) rec'd it to me years ago and I got hooked. The PDP hardware/edges aren't amazing, but they tune up really well.

I'm sure not easy to hear...
