Re: My week in Nashville!

And of course, my obligatory visit to Headquarters meant bringing something home, so that was cool too. Since I wasnít sure which to get, I picked up that phosphor Bronze last week. Just in case I...

Re: My week in Nashville!

Well, there are a lot of other factors: our gas taxes because we have to be more "green" then the next guy, the stupid state-level government we have....stuff like that. I may change my mind, but...

Re: Gigging with a Ludwig Accent?

I think the thing with cases, once you get a set of hard cases, every kit you get after that is the same size. Can you imagine getting a new kit and then having to buy new cases? That would be...

Re: My week in Nashville!

Dukes of Hazzard museum is right across the street from the Grand Ole Opry, next to a Willie Nelson museum. Can't miss it!

We did check real estate, and it could be a possibility. Although I...

Re: My week in Nashville!

TBH - prices on new musical instruments are like what they are everywhere else. They're all competing with online businesses. Fork's Drum Closet has most of everything you'd want, and a huge cymbal...

Re: Do you have a piece of equipment that you've used since day 1 and still use it regularly?

The Regal Tip rubber coated retractable brushes. I've always had a pair since I started playing. I grew up around jazz players so there was never time I didn't own brushes. But I did try other...

Re: Gear you could afford but never owned

I do not assume Larry doesn't have the income for a $5000 gong, so I'm hoping he fulfills this dream then I can live vicariously through him.

But I guess for me, it's the Paiste cymbals. If it...

My week in Nashville!

Hey everybody!

Finally got a chance to vacation in Nashville, Tennessee! And of course, had to visit my buddy at Pearl Drums and actually be inside Pearl Headquarters!

Without too much...

Re: Decided to try this new look!

Iím sure thereís no sonic contribution going on at all ;)

I do know this so far: the drums are a bit lighter now without the die cast hoops.

Re: Gigging with a Ludwig Accent?

I'm assuming if everything is major you have hard cases? Or major enough to schlep without cases and putting stuff on blankets inside of a car? I have expensive stuff and although it can take it's...

Re: Gigging with a Ludwig Accent?

I would think the OP is not doing some major tour where other people are hauling his gear and his stuff is in relatively good shape. If it's all you got, well, then it's all you got - do your best...

Re: Gigging with a Ludwig Accent?

Dude, if you can play it doesnít matter what you bring to the gig. Personally iíd rather see somebody ripping it up on something cheap than see a $10k rig playing crap music. Itís all down to you.

Re: Decided to try this new look!

My apologies to Andy, but I must be the only one who doesn't like the Guru wood hoop. I had at one time contemplated if I ever got a Guru kit, I'd get it with regular triple-flanged hoops (which...

Re: Decided to try this new look!

No worries. I'm gonna go with this if that's ok with you though. I think it provides a nice contrast, and once I do the polyurethane - the wood hoops will look a little darker and glossy. You...

Re: Decided to try this new look!

I think there are some gold Starfire heads floating around somewhere. I'll try it. But I thought the black head with the subtle gold logo was nice and subdued. No?

Re: Decided to try this new look!

Well, I figured 50% of the people seeing it probably wouldn't like it. Your disagreement is duly noted.

Regarding the spacers - I'm a little loathe to cut the hoops in any way at this point. But...

Decided to try this new look!

I know, I've often said I couldn't tell a sonic difference between steel and wood hoops. But I do dig the aesthetic, and in my case, it's a look you don't see every day. So I thought I'd try it. ...

Re: Musician vs Artist

When I go to the NAMM show and Pearl puts on my ID badge "Artist" - that's about all the props I get about what I do for the year. Now you want to take away my thunder?

I'm like Chevy Chase in...

Re: Very cool looping performance

Yeah that’s what I’m sayin. If you’re performing with a looper, there’s no way to create more than one loop at a time so you could have different sections without stopping the process. Even though...

Re: Very cool looping performance

But in theory you would have to stop your current loop to record another one, right? So if you were doing it live, how do you seamlessly do that? And then youíd have to be able to switch back and...

Re: Removing a logo from bass drum head?

The nail polish with acetone has worked for me in the past. But Iíve also run into heads where that didnít work. Some kind of special ink was used that just wouldnít come off. So you have to...

Re: Very cool looping performance

So thatís who that is. I saw her in the Pearl room at NAMM and she was being fawned over by somebody but I didnít know who she was. That was a cool loop.

But Iíve offen asked, what do you do...
