Here's the original version by Spyro Gyra

The Manhattan Transfer studio version is quite good, I think

Re: Help with Black Page #1 (eleven-tuplets)

Yours is probably very good, Todd, I don't doubt it.
I received mine when studying at MI/PIT in 1982.
I compared it to other Zappa manuscripts and, as far as I can judge it is Frank Zappa's...

Re: Help with Black Page #1 (eleven-tuplets)

I don't think this one is the original.

Re: What is this rhythm?

You're perfectly right Andy, the most important thing is to know where you are in the music, and I find it very much interesting to always see things under different lights.
Sometimes we have to...

Re: What is this rhythm?

The only trick to this is to learn by listening.
Listening to 4/4 makes you able to understand 4/4 very well, so start listening to music that's known to be in odd meters.
Try listening to Frank...

Re: What is this rhythm?

It's possible to see it in 10/8 (like 4/4 can be seen as 8/8), but in this case it makes more sense to me to see it as 5/4.

So here it is written in 5/4:

Re: Trying to help out a blind friend

I have had experience teaching blind people, as I used to teach at a school for visually impaired and blind children.
I wasn't using braille, and I've never heard of any braille drum books, although...

Re: Musicstore.de 'Einzelstück' products?

Maybe it just shows that a seller's brain doesn't quite work as ours ;-)

It's a common trick to make people believe that it is their last opportunity to buy an item.

I think there's not much to...

Re: Musicstore.de 'Einzelstück' products?

I would think it means that's the only one piece remaining of the particular item, and they want to get rid of it !?

Re: What a catch (1980's)

Thanks Andy ;-)
While we're at it, here's a very different version of Stop, by Joe Bonamassa, that's pretty good too!

Re: What a catch (1980's)

No he didn't, the drummer's name here is Roland Kerridge.

I'm not that familiar with the rest of the CD, although I have it. I will listen to it, but there's other tracks with Gavin. The titles...

Re: What a catch (1980's)

The first time I heard him was in this song : Stop by Sam Brown

Real tasty drumming on a hit record from the 80's!

Re: 1975 - guess the drummer :)

Amazing that he was only 16...
Two days ago I was listening to a record from 1977 he played on. Jack Bruce's "How's Tricks".
I also remembered you like him very much, then I thought he could play...

Re: What is the difference of 3/4 and 6/8?

Yes it's ok with me if you want to see it this way.
But in my opinion, 6/8 is basically in two.
Then it could be useful to count the six eighth notes, but I never consider 6/8 as being in six...
