Re: I'm up to my butt in grooves.

I especially love the salsa rhythms because there isn't much of the whole rhythm section that plays on the "1".

Re: Potential drummer; have a maybe controversial question

Start with a kick , hi hats and snare (acrolite). Put good heads on them get some 14 new beats on there and you are rolling. You can practice just the snare (for rudiments) and put a pad on it for...

Re: Hi hats and air lock, no luck.

Remember that the quick beats bottom cymbal is nearly flat, thus creating a smaller air pocket then a set of regular hats.

I have another set of k master sounds . They have a wavy bottom and...

Re: Hi hats and air lock, no luck.

Look into where the holes Re located and how big they are on a set of quick beats and copy that.

Re: Tuning toms to octaves

12 and 16 work really well in octaves for me. It gets the 12 in a nice mid tuning and the 16 on the lower end of its range , close to the flappy but not quite there yet.

Re: I need help picking a drumset!

I jet clicked on that Gretch link. A bob kit with a 16" kick is not going to compare to what he already has. Keep what you have, tune and buy quality cymbals , one at a time when your budget allows.

Re: Dotted Eighth / Sixteenth Cymbal Independence Exercises

I like that joe Crabtree link. Makes me think of 3 over 4 in a different way. I usually do it with RLL or LRR. But the way he does it , it is just single stroke with accent every 3!!!

I like it...

I have the same "issue". Played without a click for years and also , being a jazz trained sax player, I listen to the soloist a lot. Most people know a jazz soloist likes to drag often .
