Queens College New York, Jazz program

Or as it is known, the Lawrence Eisman Center for Preparatory Music.

I was told by a friend to check out their jazz program. Apparently they have some strong teachers there, but I've checked their...

Re: Buying on Craigslist/Ebay

Problem is I don't have a car to transport em, so I'll have to carry em by hand haha.

Strangely though, I expected to find alot more used kits than what I've been seeing so far.

Re: Buying on Craigslist/Ebay

Wow thanks for the heads up guys.

Any ideas about shipping though and how that work/works/worked out for anyone? I've got a bit of a transportation problem (no car student) so I'm just exploring...

I'm looking for a kit (look in the Classifieds thread if you think you can help me out)

and I'm...

Re: Clenching problem

It's weird though because I'm playing looser than ever.. I'm totally relaxed in my arms and legs and it's just my jaw that's clenching. Not sure why.

Will see if 'active' clenching works out.

Clenching problem

Hey Ho drummerworld forum-ers!!!

It's been a while! Greeting from Hollywood! Haven't been around here in ages due to school in MI (having loads of fun and learning tons)

Re: I'm curious

I don't think that's true. I remember experimenting with it with a completely new student who was new to drums and he distinctively found it harder to maintain flams than single strokes at a...

I'm curious

to know the reason why this

L R L R L R L R L R L R L R

is always easier than this
L---L---L---L---L---L---L---L
R--R---R--R---R--R---R--R (double stopping or flamming btw)

I'm sure...

Re: the left/right stick phenomenon.

I've been trying again and again to wear both sticks evenly but it just doesn't work.

I think it's also to do with the small surface texture differences in each stick. For example, I have one...

the left/right stick phenomenon.

I don't know if this occurs to you guys.

Picture this scenario.

You're woodshedding and you've got a new pair of sticks. You start off using them and pretty soon (or much later depending on how...

Re: Unconscious switch

weirdly enough, I haven't been working on anything specific. I just noticed that I now use middle finger fulcrum...

I haven't done any new exercises. It just sort of happened...

weird.

Unconscious switch

I looked at my technique today and found out something interesting.

I've subconsciously and unintentionally switched to a middle finger fulcrum from an index finger fulcrum in my right hand.

When everything you know is 'wrong'

Hey guys!

Just started my first day at MI...

and I'm AMAZED at how differently they expect you to play than what I've already been hearing and doing almost all my drumming life.

I may be...

Re: Ideal length for a drum solo?

It depends on a whole host of things I suppose.

Firstly, in what context is the solo? If you're doing a solo mid song, I suggest keeping it as short as possible. The longer your solo, the easier...

Re: reasons you got fired

I feel bad for laughing so much at this. Sorry for any offence lol.

I've got kicked out many times of certain 'forming bands' who weren't really gigging yet for the simple fact that I refused to...

Re: To those who use remote hi hats

So then getting a remote hat is not really a 'substitute' for a 'normal' one?

More an addition?

To those who use remote hi hats

Do you keep a hi hat in the original position? Meaning using 2 sets of hi hats?
Or do you use the remote one and to hell with the other one?

If so, how in the world are you spose to do 2 handed...

Re: A little creative challenge for everyone - test yourself!

'PIANO'

For one it would be ridiculously funny to see that nice and big printed all over your drums.

Secondly it would also mean 'soft'.. something which clearly they aren't most of the time.

Re: Observations about tuning

It's one of the biggest lessons I learned at a Clinic by Simon Phillips I think.

What your kit sounds like sitting behind the throne and what it sounds like from 30 feet away are two completely...

Re: Your height and drum heights

boomka's got quite a detailed analysis there..

I'll add a little

There are drummers who don't go by the 'parallel thighs' position. Me for example. You might come across people who just prefer...
